So I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything about who is taking over from Jenna already, and I can only assume that that is also deliberate and for a very specific reason. Assuming the show will broadcast in the autumn again, then as has been said filming must start soon, so he must have decided on whatever it is by now. And there has to be a reason he's not telling us. It is somebody we already know? Is there not just one character but a different one every week?
I'm assuming that the role hasn't yet been cast -- and may not even be entirely clear conceptually to Moffat and Minchin yet -- but assuming that it has...
There's no reason to announce the role now. They'll announce shortly before filming begins. And we should also get an idea of what their broadcast plans are for series 10.
Maybe the route Tom Baker wanted...no companion.
I very much doubt that. Moffat needs the publicity boost a companion announcement gets (to remind people that
Doctor Who exists) and a reason for people to tune back in. A series of solo Doctor adventures or Doctor and celebrity one-offs companions would be conceptually interesting -- I, as a fan, would be quite curious -- but it's not the move that Moffat needs to resucitate the show's flagging fortunes.
I realize I'm painting a picture of "doom and gloom," but I'm looking at it in the way that the beancounters probably are.
The shoot begins in April. At best that means aa short run before Christmas, like 2012. More likely nothing till the Christmas special and a season in 2017.
Do we know that
Who's shoot is in April? It's widely said that
Sherlock's shoot is in April, and
Class has to fit in there, too. And considering that Moffat intended to leave
Who with "Husbands," it's not unreasonable to suspect that he's well behind on his
Who prep, especially with
Sherlock bearing down.
