I realised not long before it happened that it was going to happen.
I don't mind the decision creatively, but I did find it really distracted me from the big fight scene that followed. I mean, it's a huge thing to do in a Star Wars movie, especially at this stage.
No one seemed to care he was dead either

Chewie went mental with grief and rage at losing his best friend
Rey (who just met him like a day before) was screaming and crying
Finn was yelling and showing obvious grief
Leia, light years away reacted to his death in the very realistic way that an estranged and battle-weary older woman who'd also essentially lost her son would quietly and mournfully visibly react
Shit, even Ben was upset at having (from his point of view) to kill his father.
Yeah, I guess you're right - nobody gave a fuck.
Holy shit, did comprehension levels and attention spans drop sharply while I was away???
