‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

I think with the philosophical differences set up at the beginning of this film, we'd have to expect their alliance to be somewhat grudging, even at the end. Leave the bromance for the sequel. ;)

I'm starting to think Batman and Superman will resolve their differences and team up against a common enemy.

One of the purported plot synopses has Batman and Superman making their peace before the halfway mark. Which, frankly, makes a lot of sense to me. The reality is, I want to see Batman and Superman working together, not at cross purposes. Their first encounter goes badly, and then they sort it out because they're not stupid or unreasonable.

I think the trailer makes that obvious because of how Lex mentions part of the reason for the creation of DoomZod.

I must say... I've been waiting years for a movie Bat-costume that has the torso and leggings in gray as in the comics, instead of solid black. It's about time!

The Frank Miller-esque design is interesting.

Perhaps, although I could have sworn I read an interview or article that confirmed that the main storyline of the movie is about their battle with each other, and that it's not something that is just swept aside halfway through the movie.

Well, we got long haired Lex and Doomsday. Maybe this is the Death of Superman? And that means long haired Supes is the next movie! :)

Ouch.. that trailer raised some serious problems with me.

Most glaring is Lex Luthor. While i like Jesse Eisenberg as an actor and have seen him in several movies where he rocked that played to his strengths this doesn't seem to be one of them. He sticks out like a sore thumb playing this cheerful and ditzy version of Lex Luthor.. a twenty something, probably a genius from MIT (as it's the go to school for movies to show that the guy is smart) etc.. This has Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom all over it.. one of the most awesome villains and they ruin him by making him something contemporary.

God how i wished they'd gotten Bryan Cranston in a sort of Walter White level character, that is how i envisioned Lex Luthor (extreme intelligence with a seething sea of hatred and contempt bubbling under the surface ready to explode).

Ben Affleck though seems perfectly fine in this role, especially when he's Bruce Wayne but he sure bulked up to play a convincing Batman, we'll see how he is as Batman (and was that a real gun he was holding at the end or some kind of stun gun?).

Well, we've seen Cavill as Superman already. In my opinion a perfectly fine choice though probably not becoming a legendary role for him like it did for Reeves. I'm curious though about the Superman cult we've seen in the earlier trailer.. is Superman accepting of this and why did they take Batman as a hostage? Seems out of character for Superman to tolerate or accept any kind of worship.

Wonder Woman.. well, they better have a good explanation why she appears suddenly because apparently neither of the guys called her in.

And finally Doomsday (of which i only thought of by reading this thread).. he looked more like Abomination from Ed Norton's Hulk and unlike any Doomsday i ever saw in the comics. He just looked plain bad.. all gooey and such, like an early 00s SFX test.

This trailer actually dampened my interest in the movie, still will be seeing it but nowhere as exited as i should be when DC gets its heavy hitters together in a movie.

Batman should be flexible enough to allow exceptions to his no-guns policy for things like, say, shooting Kryptonite at mutated undead Kryptonian monsters (just to speculate).

I was under the impression that Eisenberg's Luthor was in fact Lex Jr, if that's the case I don't understand the hate for his version of the character.

Batman's voice is definitely modulated, just not as heavily as when he is in the armor. The thing about the gun Batman is holding, the barrels bore looks very large. Maybe its a particle weapon that shoots a Krypton beam and Batman was originally going to use it on Superman. Maybe?

Recall Batman used a sonic canon against Superman during the Miller comic.

Also TDKRises had Batman using a rifle that shut down electronics.

Also, kryptonite guns are a thing in the DCU.

The weapon Affleck is holding could be any of those, but I highly doubt it's a loaded assault rifle with bullets.

So that's probably what the gun in the movie is, since this movie is evidently trying to copy The Dark Knight Returns in many ways. Heck, as pointed out on ComicsAlliance earlier today, the whole trope of Superman and Batman fighting pretty much owes its popularity to TDKR.

Forgot about a certain Mr. Spacey, did we?

No, because I was listing the versions of Luthor that I enjoyed. And Spacey-Luthor was basically a recast Hackman-Luthor without a tenth of the charm.

See, I always liked Spacey's Luthor. Because he didn't want to be charming. He didn't feel like he needed people to like him to gain something. A lot of the Luthor's I've seen seem to want to others to love him, or appreciate him, or idolize him, or worship him.

Not Spacey's Luthor. He was in it for the cash. Simple as that. No need to pretent to like people and use fake charm, because he doesn't do real charm either. He was as true and forthcoming and, actually, honest as the most sincere good guy/superhero. His motives were just not the same.

I'm not talking about the character trying to be charming, I'm talking about how appealing it is to me as an audience member to watch the actor's performance. Hackman's Luthor wasn't trying to be charismatic any more than Spacey's was; after all, they were supposed to be the same version of the character. Hackman's Luthor was arrogant and self-centered and imperious and abusive, and the only people he ever tried to be endearing to were Zod's threesome, as a matter of self-preservation. But Hackman played that imperious and abusive character with a lot of humor and wit and made him fun to watch. Spacey played the same character, but in a way that wasn't as appealing to me as a viewer.

Em.. doesn't he do that in the very first scene we see him in?

You know what..... I completely forgot about that.... It has been ages since I last saw Superman Returns.
Yeah, granted, that sorta negates my whole point! :D

But, I still liked his Luthor though. Each his own I suppose.
