Spoilers The Flash - Season 2

There's be no point in hiding his identity so thoroughly if he wasn't somebody we'd recognize.

And he didn't dodge the lightning...he grabbed it and threw it back!

There is if it is a mislead on the part of the writers, and catching the lightning and throwing it back still seems to me like something Zolomon should be able to do.

Using a name from the comics would mean nothing to the general audience...using the face of an established character, OTOH....

Everyone that watches the Flash, if they know what comics are, or that anybody is still making comics, the non-geek demographic must have spent a few moments considering finding, acquiring or collecting Flash Comics to see what the big deal is about.

Maybe it's a few seconds of thought, but if this new growing hunger actually grows up into a real plan, it's unlikely that any dancing penchant to nerd up will survive contact with the actual cover price of modern comics today.

DOES Barry still have his speed? Someone at TV Tropes seems to think the scene implied Zoom drained Barry's powers (and that he did the same to Jay during their fight) so he couldn't just heal. Hey, do they still have Thawne's wheelchair? Maybe they could jumpstart Barry's powers using it the same way Thawne was stabilising his?

Of course, Barry has had his powers drained before and come back stronger. But even if he can just heal in a day or a week, this fight again makes it clear that at some point he's gonna have to learn to actually fight rather than just rely on speed. Thawne was able to hold his ground against a League of Assassins-trained Olly even without his powers. Barry had a few boxing lessons from Eddie and whatever playground scraps he won standing up to bullies.

Edit: INTERESTING. The comment at TV Tropes about Zoom draining Barry's speed has been removed since I posted...

Anyone else thinking that with Barry crippled, he might somehow wind up temporarily transferring his speed to Jay? (Or maybe Wally, if he shows up.)

^You mean, like, the Speed Force selects a more capable host? I'm not sure it's that sentient.
I don't know how they will have it work in the show, but in the comics speed can be borrowed or lent via the speed force.

Speed lend/steal – Perhaps his most versatile new power. Because the Speed Force governed all motion, Wally could rob objects of their kinetic energy, motion, or momentum (e.g., bullets in flight or turning a supervillain into a statue) and use the energy to accelerate himself even faster. He could similarly lend speed to inanimate objects or allies, enabling them to temporarily travel nearly as fast as himself.

I'm very curious to see what exactly is going to lead to what we've seen in the NZ preview and now some pics. I'm assuming it's going to have something to do with Grodd.

i just rewatched the scene. i thought Zoom stabbed Barry with the anti-speed dart they developed. so i am assuming tha part is temporary, and his healing isn't as fast.

Here's hoping Patty sees Barry all laid up (and not by her) and puts two and Flash together. :bolian:

Because she's smarter than Lois lane?
Who?

;)

Either Zoom knows who Barry is that he picked the sound stages they had on hand, or he flew Barry's mangled carcass like a flag in about 80 other hot spots in Central city, that we didn't see.

"Attention, patrons of the Lusty Ladies Lair! As you can see, I have beaten your beloved hero to a pul... eh? None of you care? This is awkward... Er, carry on, then, I suppose..."

:p

Well, the places that Zoom takes the Flash are the police department, the Picture News office, and STAR Labs. It makes sense that he'd go to the police and media (specifically the newspaper where noted Flash blogger Iris West works) in order to boast of his defeat of the Flash; and it's not that hard to figure out that the Flash is working with STAR.

Time for some AV Club commenters' snark:

If Zoom wanted to kill Barry or steal his speed why didn't he just od it? And really why get Dr. Light or Wells to work for him when can quite clearly take out Barry all by himself?

The same reason most heroes don't get killed by a sniper shot while they sleep. It doesn't make a good story.

I actually don't think "I feel I've changed and it's a little too much for me to be around all this" isn't a bad reason for him leaving - I just don't think it was articulated very well at all.

Well, the old theory was that he couldn't stay on Earth-1 long or he'd lose his speed, so he sent the metas - but that seems to be out of the window.

Another theory that works for me is that Zoom wants to be the best, so if Barry was enough of a threat to challenge him (and thus make it worth him coming to Earth-1) the metas would be a good test of that.

There were two speedsters on Earth 2.

Zoom was faster than Jay.

Zoom defeated jay constantly.

There was no question that Zoom was the best.

Then comes the breach.

And Barry.

Barry is slower than Zoom and Jay is powerless.

Zoom is the best.

So why is he picking on the silver medalist?

...

Cisco and Jessie?

I can't stop shipping this nerd.

By hook or by crook, I'll see him in a meaningful relationship even if it kills me!
