Trek's formula has been beloved by fans for 50 years.
Trek's formula has been changed several times. Besides, you can't keep doing something that you've done for 50 years even after it stopped working 20 years ago. That would make you insane.

That's not how forums work.I"ll say this for the record once and for all. ...This is where I will disagree, politely but firmly. Abrams had some of the most interesting social commentary that I have seen in Trek in a while. To me, it will be more apparent after a few years, as we recognize what he was commenting on and why it is important. It's subtle, but there.

I hope they plop the new show right in the middle of the Prime timeline... and change everything.

The first scene should be an Alternative-Spock on a grassy knoll shooting and killing a young Prime Universe James T Kirk.
Put it at the beginning of the 24th century. Have them already using slipstream drives, sentient androids in Starfleet, overran the Klingon Empire, monstrously large starships and so on.
Yet all the while, having them say it takes place in the Prime universe.
The guys record speaks for itself. Is everyone who worked on those movies unacceptable?I'm another. It's slam-bang mindless crap. It'd be so in any genre. It's lousy fiction, period, and Abrams' movies are bad movies first and bad Trek second.
Will have no interest in Kurtzman's dumbed down, formulaic anti-Trek.
Im willing to give people a chance, Im sure he will have his own ideas.
He's on the who's who of B shows, where one writers deuxmachina is the rule of the day.
I personally like the new movies, however the lack of translatability to television is pretty large.
Stomping over canon that your own show created not fine.
It's a good thing I'm not running the show. I'd be the biggest dick in the universe while putting on the best Star Trek people ever saw.![]()

You sound like an old friend of mine. He used to say back when Enterprise was airing that he would just intentionally mess up continuity to get nerds' undies in a twist. At the time, even that thought to me seemed like heresy.
I'm pretty sure the show will be respectfully handled, and like King Daniel says, there will be broad strokes continuity. Even if they set it in the Abrams verse, they might ignore transwarp beaming. We have to face it right now, there are things that they are going to ignore. I'm OK with that.

Star Trek started stomping over its own cannon in the 70's and has been doing so ever since.

Sorry my memory of some of that canon stuff is a little off. I blame the radiation I was expose to from the nuclear war known as WW3 back in the 90s

I want a cameo from Detective John Munch or I'm boycotting this overrated train wreck.
