Is the devil evil?
For the first 14 billion years beautiful Lucifer was an Angel dutifully in the Lords service.
Gotta wonder what his supervillain origin was?
If the devil is evil, was he evil because of free will, or by gods design?
God needed someone to be evil to get the job done and move the story along and God picked Lucifer whether he liked it or not.
Some people are born evil, some achieve evil and others have evil thrust upon them.
The word "Whistleblower" comes to mind for some reason.
Actual Satanists, the little I know on the subject, in the real world and not Gothic fiction, believe more in God being an untrustworthy dick, than the Devil eating souls and planning on harming everybody else in a reign of terror and destruction.

The show sounds interesting, but I expect it will go some kind of conflicted anti-hero route before too long. Still, it does sound fun and reminds me of Moorecock's 'Warhound and the World's Pain' so far as Lucifer getting tired of the same old same old goes.
Not evil, just peckish during the night.
The entire pilot for Lucifer was leaked online months ago, and the story is based (I'm assuming loosely?) on the DC Vertigo Comics Series of the same name, based on a spinoff character from Neil Gaimen's Sandman who just said "#### this" and walked away from his responsibilities in Hell.

I'm not sure about their appearance being different, but Perry does slip calling LaF Susan from time to time, as well. It's also possible this takes place before they start calling themself LaFontaine rather than Susan. I found the reference to the music and light interesting.
I wonder if Perry does have some extra-sensory powers which the hyper-normal attitude is an effort to hide or suppress them? It could make a possible way to deal with the Dean in season 3 and/or help get the Dean out of Perry's head.

I think that this is set before Susan's transformation/evolution into LaFointaine.
Moreso, I think that we are going to see the change occur.
We'll be there like a fly on the wall at ground zero.
And moreso, moreso I think that this levelling up is going to involve an extreme hair cut.

I just had some fearful thoughts.
What if the lax gender imprecision LaFontaine personifies later on in the earlier seasons isn't just a choice she made after introspection? What if at the end of this bloodharvest, Susan is the final sacrifice who has to come to terms with new physical realities?
If they're fighting a God again, someone (Susan) may have to give this God all their periods (either contractually over the course of a normal life span, or by squashing time into a red jet and knocking back 40 years of Carrie at the prom in one compact shot glass) to kill it, or fatten the blood God up till it rolls away for a hundred years, or Susan takes over as the new God/dess, and it never stops. A (classical) Goddess of menstruation should logically always be menstruating right?
Having babies in the modern world doesn't define a modern woman as a modern woman, but if you won't (because of magic) stop menstruating, you can never become pregnant, and therefore (because even the most enlightened of us are aware of the most traditional thinking) get all questiony about what is a woman and why you are or are not a woman.

Laf could have an interesting role in this or the third season, more likely, if the show goes further into its Sumerian mythology. So far, the prayer/spell used to revive Danny is a line from Gilgamesh where Inanna/Ishtar is threatening to cause chaos on Earth by raising the dead to consume the living unless dad/Anu helps her get revenge on Gilgamesh. The seven gates are likely from another Sumerian myth of Inanna/Ishtar, the Descent of Ishtar into the Underworld. It had seven gates to pass through.
While Ishtar is trapped there, she being the goddess of love/fertility, there is no sexual activity on Earth. That result would fit into this season zero story, but that aside, the gods create a genderless/non-binary being to go rescue Ishtar. If the show is playing with Sumerian mythology, Perry could end up being host or connection to some larger power and LaFontaine could turn out being the one to the rescue?

1 Wait and see, I don't know if the Dean is an ordinary vampire, though. I think only LaF called her one at the end of the first season and that from her being Carm's mother in death, presumably.
2 I am pretty sure it is. Perry, at least is from the novel, Madame Perradon is the motherly governess of Laura, and Mademoiselle LaFontaine is a younger finishing governess for Laura.
