To be fair, while taking Weir out may have been intentional, they hadn't intended to replace Carter.

Carter should have never been commander at all. Amanda Tapping did an interview before she did Atlantis saying that she really didn't want to do the show, that she had moved on after SG-1 was canceled, but she was under contract for a season 11 that made her d her time on Atlantis.

Just another example of horrible writing. They should have never have killed Weir off, Torri Higginson was pissed when she was fired from the show. Every season of Atlantis got worse and worse and by the end it was nearly unwatchable, and at times just depressing.

"unwatchable" is a rather strong term, in my opinion. Regardless of my feelings about "Ataantis" I would watch that show before watching much of the other SF shows out there.

Some of Atlantis' fifth season neared unwatchable territory for me. The same could be said for some of SG-1's twenty season.

Stargate Universe actually was unwatchable for me -- I couldn't finish it.

Season 1 of Universe was rough, season 2 was better. They had such an interesting idea for a show and such uninteresting characters and storylines. That show didn't need the Goual'd (I forgot) at all.

Weir was a great character, and I was really sad to see her go. While Carter was great on SG-1, I didn't like her as the Atlantis boss as much as Weir. I don't really remember much of what I thought of Woolsey's time as boss. Honestly, I don't really remember much of the last season at all. I guess I must not have enjoyed it very much if it left that little of an impression.

Interesting. I never found Weir to be a good character. I always found her very undefined and boring. To be honest, I think SGA suffered from weak characters. At the end, I found a lot of them unlikable, unbelievable and in the end, I was really ready for SGA to be over. I think it started with great potential but simply fell apart.

After Shep and McKay took over the show Weir wasn't as important of a character as she was when the show started. I never found any of the Stargate shows to be unwatchable at any point.

I don't really remember much of what I thought of Woolsey's time as boss. Honestly, I don't really remember much of the last season at all. I guess I must not have enjoyed it very much if it left that little of an impression.

He was the best part of the last season, storewide and commander wise.

Which sadly says a lot about the last season.

Carter works best when she has someone to play off of, like Jack or Cam, who prefers pithy, down-to-earth, sayings rather than long, scientific, explanations:

Well, that was already McKay and Shepherd's thing, so Sam really didn't have much of a niche to fill. I think the best episode with her was "Midway" where she was more of a peacemaker in her role.

But, beyond that, it never felt like it worked. Watchable, but largely tough to buy in to.

Some of Atlantis' fifth season neared unwatchable territory for me.

Agreed... some of it recently was background TV for me. there's only so many times i can see them on a Wraith ship or planet, shoot some stuff up, Rodney shouts and then they all leave the planet.

My memory was that it dipped about season 3 and improved again later... but on a rewatch, it just felt down down down with Wolsey being the only bright spot of the last season.
