Axanar dropped a plot spoiler about a month ago

Greg, these vignettes will be released before the full Axanar film?

I actually don't know. I think the vignettes will be set-up for the full Axanar movie to come later. But I don't really know. We have a little shoestring production and studio (which I am, of course, proud of). I think following up Axanar and its anticipated high production values with a couple of quick vignettes would seem anticlimactic. Doing them as set-ups for the bigger movie makes more sense to me.

I am looking forward to the final product.

I would say the 20-minute documentary and the scene on Vulcan are definitely broadcast-quality in terms of special effects as well as the delivery by professional actors.

However, it remains to be seen whether the final production lives up to expectations. What we have so far doesn't give any indication as to happenings aboard the ships or on other planets, the abilities of the rest of the actors, or the strengths of the main feature's story structure.

They aren't. Sorry to burst your bubble but they just are not.

"THIS is the question which preoccupies our people, Captain Kirk!"

I've seen worse on broadcast TV.

So have I.

But that doesn't change the fact that Prelude to Axanar and the one scene aren't "broadcast quality."

I disagree about Prelude. I think it was quite good for a short film, certainly (IMO) worthy of an "Independent Film".
The Vulcan scene I felt lacked some polish, can't put my finger on it. Maybe it felt too much like Coruscant?

There are a couple of shots in the Vulcan scene -- the close-up on Soval as he's pronouncing the line "for chaos builds only darkness," in particular -- where I get a strong sense of looking at green-screenery. I thought the digital scenery itself was quite impressively done, though.

Or maybe people treadmilling against greenscreen rarely looks convincing.

Sure looks fun, though! ;)

(Didn't feel quite like what was going on in that scene, really, I just wanted to make an Amazing Bulk reference.)

To my eye, it looks as good as anything that ever appeared on Star Trek: Enterprise.

TV doesn't have the same demands as a feature film.

Thsnks, Greg. Having seen your studio, I would not call it little.

Greg; who will be producing the Ticonderoga vignettes; NV or Axanar?

Well, not me; that's about all I know.

Axanar is bringing the director, the director of photography, the camera, a line producer, and their Captain Garth talent. The vignettes are being shot at RFS's studio with our assets and with NV crew--including our Kirk and Spock talent.

From a pre-production standpoint, I generally do a combined Kellam DeForest/Bob Justman pass through the script to check for "accuracy" and possible fiscal pitfalls. I asked for the scripts for my usual reviews, and James hasnt passed them along to me. So I don't really know what's up with them. Other than us doing the shoot, it look like our NV team isn't involved too much from a pre-production (and likely not a post-production) standpoint. My sense is that these will be Axanar productions more than NV productions. But like I say: I'm a bit out of the loop on this one, so I can't be too informative.

I hear through the grapevine that, all told, it is eight pages of script stuff we are shooting over three days.

Wish I knew more.

Whether it annoys me or not is irrelevant. The post was made more as a predictor than anything else. Axanar has been very vocal about its accomplishments, and I thought this would be an amusing way --for both its supporters and those who may not be as passionate about it-- to share the news that they won the Geekie Award. Jeez.

EDIT: This is the kind of thing I'm talking about when I say that Axanar fans are too sensitive to anything other than outright praise for the project.
