Bruce Hyde played Lt. Riley in "The Naked Time" and "Conscience of the King". He was 74 years old.

Obituary here.

Sad news. Kevin Riley was one of my favorite small parts in all of Trek. And Hyde's philosophy in life seemed like a good one.

RIP

I really liked the Riley character and that was due in large part to Hyde's performance.

RIP.

This is awful. :(

I admired the direction Mr. Hyde took in his life.

I don't know if this was in the late 1970s or when, but I've heard that he sometimes sang "Kathleen" for the fans at conventions. You just know he was a nice guy.

Re: RIP, Kevin Thomas Riley

A character I wished we had seen more of in the series. Hyde was great in that role. RIP.

They brought him in for a small convention in my town around '96 or '97. Although he didn't really talk about Star Trek much, he was a VERY nice fellow who I got to talk with a bit earlier and who remembered my name for the Q&A later.

Very sad to hear this news. It's been a shitty, shitty year for TOS fans.

It probably says a lot about Hyde as an actor that he was able to turn two guest appearances into such a memorable character.

Rest in peace, good sir.
