Big Finish Does Time War...

I wonder if the prequel set will basically lead into Night of the Doctor.... which would be mega cool, of course.

Link to the press release with more details about this boxset and other Time War sets.

Wow, this sounds incredible. Pity the first set is entirely written by Nicholas Briggs but at least others get to play in the other sets.

Another thought: No evidence of it in the first boxset, but it would be really nice if the sets tied in with the Gallifrey series. More Narvin is always nice, but more Romana is even better, especially if it eventually leads to her final fate.

Man, that would be sweet: Romana II and the Warrior... what will she think of him?

Also, I think this quilifies much more as a BIG announcement, don't you? :D

You mean Romana III, don't you? Drusilla from Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the Time Lady now. ;)

Wow. The circle is now complete. I honestly thought it was too late, especially after John Hurt's cancer diagnosis. If this was his idea (to do as much with his character as possible while he still could), kudos to him.

Now if they can just get Timothy Dalton, Julian Bleach and Derek Jacobi...

I'm not familiar with the Gallifrey series, but anyway.

I'd settle for Terry Molloy for Davros. And frankly, I'd rather see Alex MacQueen rather than Jacobi - remember, the Doctor didn't recognize him in his Jacobi incarnation.

Gotta be honest -- I thought John Hurt was less likely for Big Finish than Christopher Eccleston. Not because of his cancer diagnosis (which, last I heard, his treatment was going well) but because he'd have been too expensive for Big Finish's budget.

Though it's very brief, download the Big Finish Podcast with Hurt and Nick Briggs. There's not a lot to be said, but Hurt does say he's having fun and he really likes the scripts.

I don't really know. I enjoy books, I enjoy TV and films. But I would never listen to radio plays or the like or even spoken-word versions of books. It's just not a format that I can imagine sitting down and listening to. I'd prefer to listen to music. That's not to take away from others' enjoyment of it; I can't really explain it any more than I can explain why I don't like broccoli!

I can explain why I don't like broccoli - the state is awful, and the smell alone repels me from eating it.

And I don't think its the same to compared audiobooks to full cast audio dramas. For all intents and pruposes, the latter is usually normal episodes but without visuals.

Besides, aren't you interested in decent storytelling that can also fill in the blanks created from the show? I mean, don't want to experience a proper run for the Sixth Doctor, complete with a regeneration story?

I understand the feeling.

But you know what's weird? I love the Doctor Who audio plays but I'm not at all interested in the novels. Yet I love the Star Trek novels (well, declining over recent years, but I still love the old ones I read) but I really have no interest in Star Trek in audio format (I don't have any interest in the one Sulu audio).

That being said, I was too young and not in the right place in my life during the so-called "Wilderness Years" when the Doctor Who novels were really popular.

I wonder how the audios will handle the nomenclature issue. Are they going to embrace "Doctor" (as Engines of War did), or will they tortuously work around it (like Seasons of War did).

For me, if I were writing these, I'd embrace "Doctor" and go with it. It's easier on the audience.

Juliet Landau is Romana? Wow. I hope she's improved her fake English accent since her Buffy days.

Jacobi wouldn't work if there were to be any interaction with the War Doctor, since the Doctor didn't recognize Professor Yana.

They could have others calling him "Doctor" while he avoids referring to himself that way.

I'd love to hear the Warrior interact with Alex MacQueen, the Master in McGann's run.
