Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

That shouldn't be an issue at all. You upgraded from either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, correct?

Yes. But I just did a Windows Update (which only had an update for Windows Defender), and now everything's fine. That's Windows for you, I guess.

Do older games like Star Trek Armada and Armada 2 work in Windows 10 that didn't with Windows 7 (due to needing things like extended memory which modern computers don't need)?

There was an issue with the activation server for a little while, know a few people who didn't automatically activate, and it worked a little while later, probably activated when you updated.

Do you have an issue with the video card driver?

No..... No issues at all. I can play movies and videos in every other program I use like VLC WinDVD and Windows Media Player.. None of these other programs had problems.

Hmm, the only time I had those sort of issues was on an old laptop that needed to update its drivers, was fine after the update.

I'm already using the latest driver version 353.62

Hmm weird. I've not used their video app, I have used solitaire though and that was fine.

I looked in the reviews for the Solitaire collection app. There are a few other people who commented the exact same thing as I did in their reviews of the game.

So It's not just an issue for me.

I've been switching off lots of stuff, like all of the privacy related things. I mean, I knew Windows 10 had some updated privacy settings, but if you leave them all on, your system is an open book for just about anything Microsoft deems a "partner".

My desktop is a desktop, not a phone. It doesn't need 99% of what those settings activate.

Which is one of the problems that Microsoft have - what they are now trying to build into the desktop we most all get from somewhere else - I don't need Cortana because I have google now...

I think Microsoft are playing a game of catch up with other companies like Google and Apple and it's all a bit too late. I mean I like the idea of everything connected and all but it just seems it's too little too late, and badly implemented.

However I do love how I can set a calendar event on my PC and have it show up on my phone a few moments later. I like things like that.

I've also turned off a few things.

I get an invite now every time I turn on my Windows 7 machine. One of the "critical updates" that came through my Windows Updater recently installed this little Win10 spam advert icon in the tool bar. Its existence and procedure to turn off and/or remove is here. Fuckin' Microsoft...

The pisser of it is, Apple isn't any better any more, as evidenced by the bloated abortions that are iTunes and Safari. All the big software companies have gone to shit lately it seems. I used to be a complete Mac bigot. Now, there's nothing that appears to be able to get the job done. Almost like politicians these days...

From what i hear Windows 10 should be a good OS, MS is just using its customers as involuntary beta testers.

I only have my Laptop at home and am reliant on it (ever had to browse the web on a Smartphone for extended time? Awful) so i'm not touching Windows 10 now because i can't afford my PC to freeze up and me spending a day uninstalling, reinstalling and reconfiguring my Win7 PC.

Once a few months pass and reports indicate it's stable i might install it on a new computer i'm planning to buy early next year but not before that.

That is the reason I've booted 10 off my machine, you can't turn off all the crap and as long that isn't possible I won't run it on any of my machines.

How so? Did you agree to use a product that's obviously still got a few bugs and where third party support like drivers is not covering some areas?

I call that being a beta tester without MS actually declaring it as such.. they know they will have bugs and they are using this and covering their ass by not having an official, traditional release through stores and such.

As with every OS so far the start will be buggy and it has always caused some bad blood until a few weeks/months later before it's sort of stable and well enough supported. Now they have found a way to get out as clean as possible by making it appear that MS is giving it away freely and people are less likely to complain loudly if they get something for free.

There will never again be an official traditional release of windows ever again - does that mean you will not be able to buy a disc? No but that is a sideshow for holdouts same way in which standalone office makes up a smaller and smaller part of the picture.

Windows 10 has already been tested extensively and had a very long public beta (which they called a "technical preview.) Now it's in general release. General release does not mean "bug free" because hardly any software ever is.

There are plenty of cases where software companies release products that aren't ready for prime time, calling them general releases when they're still of beta quality.

The Windows 10 rollout has not been flawless, but it's simply not on the level you're suggesting. It's not a botched rollout with an unfinished product. This has probably been the smoothest major OS rollout MS has ever done, even with a few bumps in the road.

Still haven't gotten an email saying it is ready for me yet. Though I did reserve my copy at the end of June. I did get emails for that much.

Every windows update has a failed Windows 10 update with it so far as it isn't ready yet. I suspect it might be that they don't have a driver or something ready yet for my machine so they will hold off until they do. At least that's the theory I'm working with.
