Star Trek: Axanar

I'm not a fan of Axanar, I don't plan on watching it, I don't plan on supporting it, and I find many fans of Axanar to be some of the most annoying people on the planet - but even the most carefully parsed, pleasantly worded, thoughtfully presented questions can rankle if they are repeated over and over again with only minor changes in content and direction.

This highlights the double standards on here.

If I went on a star trek beyond thread, and said I'm not a fan of Star Trek Beyond and Abrams, I don't plan on watching it, I don't plan on supporting it, and I find many fans of Abrams and Star Trek beyond to be some of the most annoying people on the planet there would be lots of people whinging and moaning.

Sorry that's my opinion - and we all know opinions are sacrosanct and cannot be challenged. :)

No issue with your good self, merely highlighting the point were it abrams or the nutrek being spoken about there would have been someone jumping on the bandwagon.

As for you not liking axanar, can understand, prior to prelude I had zero interest in anything fan produced.

Hey, how about that Star Trek: Axanar? Anyone else excited to see it? My answer is yes!

There won't be any of those wacky stick lamps that look like the head of the alien ships from War of the Worlds sticking out of the consoles like in the Pike scenes from TOS...

I've always liked the gooseneck viewers.

Yes, it'll be interesting. But we won't have much to talk about on the actual film for another six months or so.
True, but we can speculate. :D

Sorry J., I futzed up the quote about the gooseneck viewers. I fixed it.

It's a trap! Nobody bite! That way lies derailing and closed threads!

Apologies to Terry if this has been covered, but how do you guys intend to release this? As in, what sort of medium/venue were you painting to use to 'put it out there'? Streaming, uploading to a video site etc? Were you intending to just release it widely, or stagger it to prioritise donars like they do on Patreon?

And yes, I totally get it if its way too early to know/you just don't want to tell us all.

Oh, and a weird question inspired by The Disaster Artist (about backstage shenanigans of making The Room)- how did you guys go about obtaining your actual filming equipment? Not that I'm comparing you guys to that, it just the book made me interested in some filmmaking details that I hadn't considered before.

For the general public, the film will be released via streaming only. Donors will have an exclusive window of a week or more where the film is just for their pleasure, then, when the time comes, we'll release it generally on YouTube HD. We'll also screen at film festivals and at conventions that we're properly appearing at, not to mention the proper 7.1 surround premiere where we'll be renting the finest and largest theater that we can for it -- possibly timed with SDCC next year.

For donors at the appropriate donation levels, the film will be available to them in DVD (only available in the first feature fundraiser last August, since Axanar won't be producing DVDs any longer -- we're a "blu-ray only shop" now) or Blu-ray. For the DVD/Blue-ray we'll have a Special Edition disc that includes the film and some wonderful behind-the-scenes bonus material. We also have a super-duper 5-disc boxed set Blu-ray in the current fundraiser that includes Prelude to Axanar, the feature, the soundtracks to both films on CD, and a full disc of bonus content. For those that donated for the Blu-ray in the first feature fundraiser, and who would like the new 5-disc set, to avoid them receiving two copies of the film (unless they want to) we'll be producing a second bonus content disc that's exclusively just for them and available nowhere else that they can get to add to their disc set instead of the earlier, stand-alone SE version of the film. The boxed set case will have an empty slot in to for folks to mount that special disc in to and complete the set properly, too.

Our camera equipment -- largely 4k and 6k models of Reds -- are either rented from the places that people in Hollywood rent such things, or a few of us even own our own Red cameras. There's even (I believe) a Sony "A" camera in there somewhere. The tracks, dollies, crane, etc., are also rented.

Me, too. It's a distinct visual cue identifying the era.

At this point I'm looking forward to Axanar. So far it has a reasonable degree of polish to it (as eveidenced by Prelude).

In a wierd way this production makes me think of John M. Ford's The Final Reflection. Now that's something that would be interesting to see produced.

I think it would be a little too early to point to Prelude... as an indicator of quality. Prelude... was more of a historical chat, where Axanar will be a more traditional dramatic narrative.

I do hope it turns out well though.
