DEFIANCE Season 3

I love the title for this week's episode.

My Name is Datak Tarr and I Have Come to Kill You

i'd agree with that too :bolian:, but kinda spoils his fate (temporarily), no?

Not necessarily. From the plot description it sounds like it's going to be heavy on flashbacks, basically Datak's life flashing before his eyes as he hangs from the shaming rack. That quote could very well refer to something relevant to those flashbacks.

Mind you, none of us should be surprised if he does indeed survive this ordeal. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the final scene of the series is an elderly Datak sitting on his porch smiling over the fact he outlived everyone else from the cast.

I'd be more surprised if they did kill him than if they didn't. The show just wouldn't be the same without him.
I love that idea for the final scene of the series, that would be the perfect ending.

Tonight's episode:
My Name is Datak Tar and I Have Come to Kill You
Defiance is under siege. As Nolan, Amanda, Irisa, andthe militia defend the town against the Votanis Collective, Datak recalls his father's chilling lessons and makes a pivotal decision, while Stahma takes an unexpected trip.

I wonder if Datak recalling his father means we might get flashbacks to Casti, the Castithan homeworld?

I missed much of the first 1//2, but your prediction is right...

I did get glimpse of his father (not just the actor, but his character)...VERY interesting... i like his dad

And, oh, Datak...

Hope it broadcasts correctly this week. Wasn't able to watch last week's (from the discussion it sounded like I didnt' much so didnt' try on line) because it had music and some sound effects but no dialogue track (but the damn ads played just fine).

Well...that was an interesting twist. This show really has upped it's game this season. *resists the urge to make a hand related joke*

Interesting to see a glimpse of one of the Votan worlds before the exodus and to see Datak's father, going out tending his scrolls just as Datak described last(?) season.

Out of curiosity, exactly how close did the Votan fleet cut their escape? I mean stars take centuries to get the the point of exploding, were they really down to just hours by the time the arks were ready to depart?

Did we see the star blow up in a flash back?

Because if it's unstable for millennia before detonation, then the system would also be increasingly more uninhabitable for millennia before detonation.

If it was just increasing radiation levels on the road to super nova, then Votan shield technology could make life sustainable far longer than nature thinks is fair.

Decreasing the population of the Votan system by several billion would have helped those left behind carrying on for a few generations extra, even though I'm guessing all the planets were strip mined for gulanite.

http://en.defiance-wiki.com/wiki/Gulanite

Gulanite is (also) a fortunate byproduct of terraforming.

The polar oppiste of industrial waste.

Industrial manna?

####.

I'd thunk that all the buried down Gulanite was just fallen and divoted during Arkfall.

My bad.

I know better now.

HOLY SHIT! - Datak Tar just "single-handedly" saved Defiance! ;-)

Defiance sort of meandered in it's second season, but Season 3 rolls around and they've started pulling out FARSCAPE-LEVEL storylines and character arcs left & right.

This is the kind of stuff I'd been hoping for back when the series first arrived. Here's hoping this isn't the end.

Wow, I was wondering if Datak was going to get out of his situation, but I did not expect that. I can't wait to see where his character is going next.
I loved seeing some bits on Casti. I've been curious to see flashbacks to one of the Votan worlds, and we finally got some.
The stuff with Datak and his father was interesting.
I was a little surprised to see them finish up the stuff with Rahm Tak already, I was expecting this to go on all season.
We didn't see Berlin at all, so I wonder if that means she actually did leave.
I can't wait to see what happens with Stahma and the Omec. If things keep going how they are, I don't see all three of them surviving.

It's been a definite improvement, and I hope it continues too. :D

Amanda and Nolan were certainly talking as though she'd left.

But the fact that show is still talking about her suggests that we'll see her again at some point ....

The actress who plays Berlin is out of the main cast credits and this show has never removed names from the main credits for episodes they don't appear in (like 24 did). Could be a Starbuck-esque misdirect. Or they didn't know what to do with her after making her a regular and decided to drop her.

That was my favorite ep since Treasure Doll did fell from the arch. Amazing episode.

Right up until Datak started sawing away I was thinking "well shit.. they really are going to kill him". Fantastic twist! Was not expecting it, what a character!

I adored seeing Casti, it looked amazing.

I suspect that while we haven't seen the last of Berlin, she's almost certainly been downgraded from regular to semi-recurring. There's probably at least one more appearance left in her, but I'd say that's about all.

You know the more I think about the Datak sub-plot the more I like it. Maybe I'm being a bit slow, but at first I didn't catch the implication that the way they juxtaposed humbled Datak on the rack remembering of his father's last words, very deliberately lead us to think he'd truly changed. While what was really going on was that he was reminding himself of who he truly is.
When his cut his own arm off and made a run for it, it was a way of saying "Datak Tarr is not his father". He does not accept his fate with humility and he will go to any lengths to survive.

He may be even crazier than Rahm Tak ever was. Speaking of which, the reactions of Rahm and his people to Datak's amateur surgery was utterly priceless.

You know, if they had all just gone through the tunnel and invaded, they would've won. The Indogene could've scouted Defiance to find out the strengths and weaknesses. Instead, Rahm Tak wanted to do what exactly? Humiliate Nolan?

Rahm Tak didn't want the town destroyed which it most certainly would be if they invaded. They've been living in tents for a year, they want those buildings intact!

And now, BWAHAHAHA, Datak and Stahma are pardoned! Unless Amanda decides to go anal on Datak and tell him she only promised his pardon "posthumously".

FIVE episodes still to go! So I suspect the Omec storyline will be the drama, probably the daughter is finding some way to release them all ahead of time. I'm not sure how "inclusion" is going to work in this situation.

I didn't put all of that together with Datak's story, but I think looking at it that way makes it better.

"Single-handed"... excellent!

I don't like Amanda pardoning Stahma, though - she murdered that poor guy that found her in the alley!
