^ But that could have just as easily been a throwaway reference to Harry Mudd and nothing more. People who've never read those comics would still understand it.
^I really doubt the filmmakers would draw anything from the comics.
And then on the other hand they make really strange extraneous references to it like in STID "The Mudd Incident."
She could be Zahra, a red shirt security (IDW comic), but TrekCore said "difficult to recognize with all the make-up" and that "her costume dramatically changed her look".
So it will be difficult to be a Andorian or another character with human face.

And how many looks has Zahra had in the comics by this point? She was supposed to be based on the character from "Operation -- Annihilate!," but then she was carelessly drawn as a blonde, and now it looks like she's been identified with some nameless bridge extra with white hair? It seems like there's an ongoing lack of communication between writer and artists.

and I might argue that Spock PTSD that is only hinted in the last movie was more developed in the comics.

Other way around. Movies take far, far longer to make than comics. The line in the film was written first, and then the comic was written to "explain" it (and in an entirely bizarre way, inexplicably turning Mudd into a female Bajoran, which strikes me as entirely missing the point of the movie line).
another way to consider it is that the comics, since were approved by Orci, might have implemented and expanded ideas suggested by him regardless if they'd be in the movies or were in the script.
Though, Spock's PTSD seems to be the other way around as if in the actual movie it's treated as an afterthought. Uhura's pov too is way more layered if you read the comics.
now who knows how much the comic writer will be able to put seeds and hints about trek3 since the script wasn't written by Orci.
The current comics while not canon canon still have, from what I understood, the goal to be as consistent as they can be with the movies.

There's still no script or budget! How can there be a movie?!?!?

A large group on an Internet forum is an extremely tiny group of the population at large. Forum posters are very, very far from being a statistically representative sample, both because they're a really, really tiny sample and because the sample is biased in favor of more vocal and involved fans. As a rule, people who are dissatisfied with a thing are more motivated to speak up than those who are satisfied, so the group that writes letters or posts online or whatever is always going to be more biased toward the negative.
Y'know, I swear, no matter the quality of Beyond, I'm always going to remember its pre-release phase for the unstoppable "truther" meme surrounding its production.![]()

Oh, I don't think it's stopping anytime soon.
I really want to jokingly start a petition to end their pettiness. I bet I'd get more signatures more quickly than they have.![]()
Because I'm obviously a freaking loon with no life. I'm actively protesting a Hollywood film when we are a country facing real problems such as hunger, homelessness and illiteracy. I think I'm being true to "Roddenberry's Vision" by wasting my time on such an inconsequential matter. I feel it is a far better use of my time than helping those less fortunate in my community.
Gene Roddenberry would be proud!
