There was even a joke for a while that they were the same city, just different sides of the same island.

Wow. I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this movie.

There was a purported plot summary of the movie on IMDb a few weeks ago, and that summary fits this trailer fairly closely. I think that's a good sign; that summary was for something rather ambitious as super-hero films go

I was hoping the trailer would lay to rest the Jena Malone rumors.

So whose red-gloved hand is that anyway? It makes me think of Captain America, but that'd both out of character and the wrong universe....

I'm glad we'll get to see Burce's parents getting murdered again. Havn't seen that one in a while...

Other then that, the trailer looks good.

Some villain with a henchman named Charles?

The magic of Google under proper incantations reveals that: according to this webpage, the map is from a 1978 Sunday episode of The World's Greatest Superheroes newspaper comic strip.

:lol:Well, Batman is about to fight Superman. In the list of things worthy of such music, it's gotta rank pretty high.

I thought the interesting thing about it is that Bruce had a wife/mother of his child and one or more children who were killed in the collapse of the Wayne Financial building in Metropolis.

If you look at the newspaper that has "You let your family die!" written on it, the headline is not something old about the murder of Bruce's parents, but the collapse of Wayne Financial in the Zod vs. Superman fight. It says "family" rather than just "wife," possibly implying more than one might have died. The lettering is similar to the Joker's taunting of Batman with the "HaHa!" message on Jason Todd's armor, but I'm thinking this might be Luthor secretly sending him taunts trying to provoke a fight between Batman and Superman to weaken them both so he can take over.

Bruce is desperately trying to warn someone to get out of the building on the phone (he mouths what looks like an "Ah" sound at the end, so maybe Selina? Talia?) before he starts running into the approaching debris and smoke cloud. Afterward we see him hugging a little girl (Helena?), which could either be his surviving child or some random child he rescued. Possibly Selina/Talia died in the building and possibly another child. Or, alternatively, Bruce decided it was too dangerous for him to have a child and faked her death in the destruction so that she could start a new life with an adoptive family.

So Batman has a definite personal axe to grind with Superman after the Metropolis fight, which could explain why he went even more grimdark than usual.

It's actually Alfred leaving these messages - he's a real asshole.

Catwoman having gotten knocked off in Man of Steel would indeed be a dramatic and remarkable twist.

It'd also make a neat tie-in to the end of the Dark Knight trilogy, even though they're not the same continuity. Selina and Bruce's "happy ever after" is still fairly fresh in people's minds.

Hm.... that would mean that, unless it was done in flashbacks, none of the DCCU movies that are being made right now could have Catwoman in it. And she is quite a loved character, I feel. So I'm not sure if they're willing to do that.

The trailer gave me the impression that Bats was retired and came back out of retirement to kick some Super-ass.

Nothing made me think he had a wife and kids though. I wouldn't be happy with that. Bruce Wayne should never be happily married.

The Today Show played most of the trailer and it looks great, Disney should take note as to how to make an exciting trailer for a movie.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see anything about him having a wife or child. Letting his "family" die is probably a batman related thing (with Robin being his "family"), not him having a wife or a kid.

That trailer is amazing. Superman and Batman fighting. Gal Gadot looks great as Wonder Woman.

Who wrote "You let your family die" on the newspaper clipping? Was it in Bruce's mind? Did the deaths of his employees reminds him of the Joker's killings?

About Martha telling Clark about the world not owing him anything. I think it's to make it clear that Superman is saving people because he wants to, not because he feels guilty or feels like he have an obligation.

Except Jason Todd/Robin was clearly killed by Joker, hence the "Hahah, jokes on you!" graffiti on his armor, which Batman is maintaining in his vault.

Unless Joker knew Wayne Financial was going to be destroyed by an alien smackdown that day and tied Jason up in there like the comics just in case, it kind of robs his murder at the hands of Batman's arch-nemesis of any meaning.

On the other hand, the death of a wife/lover and possibly child provides tons of motivation for Batman to resent everything Superman represents, and has precedent in the comics too (Batman fathering a child, not Superman accidentally killing them while fighting Zod).

    They already did. ;)

As for Bruce having a wife and kid who died, it does make sense given how he was running toward the crashing building. Something like that could create a little too much resentment toward Superman though, which could permanently strain any partnership.

I didn't assume his family died in the Metropolis stuff. Honestly, I kind of figured that he's a retired Batman, and that note was to taunt him about his guilt over his mom and dad dying. Kind of a "you let your family die as a kid, then Batman left and all these people were killed" thing. Bruce in the comics a lot of the time feels guilty about his parents dying, even though he couldn't do anything. The note could be using that as a taunt, along with the Metropolis stuff, to get Batman to suit back up to take Superman down.

It makes more sense than Batman having a wife and child, which would be extremely out of place for him. I just don't see them doing that. Then again, I wouldn't have called half the weird stuff in Man of Steel, either, so I supposed anything is possible.
