There is one contradiction that didn't make sense - all the solicitations and issues stated that the Enterprise ended up in the Delta Quadrant, but the "previously" segment in issue 45 stated that they had been adrift in the Andromeda Galaxy. There's a slight difference.
and notice they were in the delta quadrant from 2262.18 to 2262.68 (they spent 50 days in the DQ) and yet TTW starts on 2262.54
Yep. They are roughly the right shape, but with a lot of doodads on the sides and what looks like a four-leaf clover nosecone. And these ships don't do straight lines. In this alternate universe, a Tholian Web is better described as a Tholian Slinky.
And as Kirk reasons, these Tholians being so adjacent is no coincidence...

That they're accurately recreating the feel of space travel in TOS.
I think they meant the fact that there is no Alpha/Delta border; the Alpha Quadrant is cattycorner to the Delta Quadrant. It goes

^Yeah... The only point where Alpha and Delta directly abut is pretty much inside the black hole at the center of the galaxy.
Maybe in the alternate universe, they actually know the Greek alphabet and label the quadrants in the correct order counter-clockwise!

I know you meant this as a joke, but we know from Enterprise that the quadrants are in the same spots in the 22nd century as they are in the 24th century, so they would be in the alternate universe too.
That's real life. In Star Trek's fantasy world, at the centre there's a planet containing an evil entity, surrounded by a magical barrier.

New news article from startrek.com. Issue #50 of the ongoing in October 2015 is supposed to introduce the "Mirror, Mirror" storyline to the Abramsverse via a three-part arc. That seems a bit redundant after the Mirrored two-parter, but hopefully this adaptation is much more faithful to the original episode than the two-parter which was an adaptation in name only.
Meanwhile, IDW is starting a Starfleet Academy comic series in December 2015. I hold hope for this iteration of Starfleet Academy since the first issue's cover has an Andorian on it.

Well, "Mirrored" kind of was an adaptation -- of "In a Mirror, Darkly." At least, it was a very similar story.
And are they really going back to adapting specific episodes? When they did that in the early issues, it was underwhelming. It got better -- and made more sense -- once they started doing original stories, or ones that presented elements from TOS episodes in radically different ways.
I don't understand the article's description about "current-day" cadets and bridging "the two timelines." The new cadets on the cover are in the red uniforms from the new movies. Are they just the current Academy class of the period in which the Ongoing comic is now set? That would put them just 3-4 years behind Kirk and Uhura.
The Starfleet Academy idea is a very odd ball of an idea, though one that was has been banded around for a good few decades. It'll be interesting to see what is brought to the table.
^Well, Marvel had a Starfleet Academy comic in the '90s that was rather well-regarded (and that introduced the character of Pava, who was adopted by the Titan novels).
That Starfleet Academy comic was one of the jewels in the crown of Marvel's Star Trek publishing line (the other being the Pike-era book). I've always wished there could be books or another comics series picking up where that comic left off, though it was great to have Pava turn up in the Titan books.
the only thing i have a problem with SFA comic is that is there going to be continuity issues with the SFA books that were released?
