Which Voyager holodeck programme would you want to take part in? (Multiple Vote). Think I included them all (the main ones).

Which ones would you avoid (no matter how many times Janeway ordered you to be there).

What holodeck programme would you create?

None of them are my idea of a good time though you get xtra points for remembering the name of the resort

Sandrines: I like a nice bar but not an old shitty bar full of old shitty french people. I'd go there if dragged along by Tom but on my own, no.

Jane Eyre rip off: NO NO NO blech.. unlike every captain in Star Trek I am not enamored with the past and that era is particularly tiresome.

Maquis Insurrection: Okay that might be fun, I would of course play a Maquis. But if I was flicking through the holo channels I would never ever pick it.

Paxau Resort: After months in space going to the beach is totally my pick. Anyone notice that though it is a Talaxian resort on Talax it is not full of Talaxians in bikinis but with humans? Neelix created the program for his shipmates but he must have suspected Talaxians in bikinis would not have had the appeal he was going for.

Leonardo da Vinci: NO NO no no no totally boring. There, I said it.

Flotter:

Captain Proton: Only if I can wear the dress and swan around but after 5 minutes I would want out.

Fair Haven: Has a pub, would drop by for a drink but zero desire to interact with the people. See: the past.

World War 2: Nah. If I wanted to tool around on the streets of France with baguettes in my basket I would pick a non-war era.

Photons be Free: This would be amusing. Satirizing your everyday life is something I approve of.

Okay so what would I choose myself.. in response to months of being trapped on a ship I would pick a more interesting beach than the Talax one with lots of jungle behind it and beach huts and drinks in coconuts. As a person today I would pick big cities on alien worlds, I want a weekend on Andor and a fortnight in the seedy section of Denobula AND I want to hang out on Rigel X where Broken Bow took us. Hugely cosmopolitan.

For my fantasy choice I will hit up Coruscant.

I don't think any of the Voyager holoprograms would be very exciting. Captain Proton might be fun once or twice, but they're pretty much all personal Mary Sue fantasies. Paxau Resort might be good because it's just relaxing.

Now, DS9's Alamo program, that could be fun.

Maybe Captain Proton, because it reminds me of the old Republic serials I used to watch.

And maybe this one...

I absolutely would avoid the Flotter one.

The one I'd want to visit and use is the Leonardo program.

The ones not on the list include:

B'Elanna's Klingon combat program - don't remember if it had an official name

Tom's garage where he built and repaired stuff like that truck they found out in space

The movie theatre

Seven's quarters

The Doctor's golf course (we never saw it, but we know he had one)

The Doctor's holo-family

Tuvok's Vulcan programs - the only one we saw was the one created for his pon farr, but he presumably had others

The one where Janeway and Seven played that game... Velocity? Or am I confusing that with another game?

B'Elanna's orbital skydiving program

And there are probably a few more...

Leonardo da Vinci: NO NO no no no totally boring. There, I said it.
How can John Rhys-Davies be "boring"? :vulcan:

You can fight Catarina for him.

One thing about all these boring holoprograms is we could tweak them to make them much more interesting. Jane Eyre could have dinosaurs and Orion slave boys if we wanted. Or maybe people could gradually as the story unfolded morph into insane aliens and it could become a gothic horror.

How about "Living Witness"? It's the closest to Mirror!Voyager we're gonna get.

From the list, "Photons Be Free" would be my choice.

I wanted to stick to the ones that the whole crew had access to and were ongoing (especially the ones that were used as social gatherings) rather than personal programmes.

Sandrines - Surely only fun if you're allowed to get wasted and watch Janeway dance on the pool table. As bars go, it looked pretty dull but it would depend on the company.

Jane Eyre rip off - It was all a bit weird. I think there was a romantic and sexual element to the programme for Janeway and if you didn't share that interest then it probably wouldn't appeal very much.

Maquis Insurection - Definitely would have enjoyed this one and played out every possible scenario.

Paxua Resort - Seemed like the most fun social gathering programme. I always laughed at the way they referenced the nearby sea but never showed it. At one point, didn't someone run up from the beach all wet?

Leonardo de Vinci - probably not for me. Another one that seemed to be very specific to Janeway's tastes.

Flotter - I bet it would amazing to play this kind of game with your kids/nieces or nephews etc. Probably a bit a weird to do it on your own as an adult. Then again, maybe kids loved it so much, they occasionally sneak back in for nostalgia. Kim mentioned using it when he was young so it's obviously been around for a while. Kids in the future must have a frikkin amazing time in that holodeck.

Captain Proton - I kinda enjoyed watching Tom and Harry screw around in there (finally got to see those lovely Delaney sisters) but if I personally played it, I think I'd get bored pretty quickly.

Fair haven - Not necessarily great to watch but had I been on board, I think Fair Haven might have been really enjoyable to take part in. I really like the idea of finishing a shift then popping down there for a pint. Watching Janeway flirt with her ever taller, ever smarter pub landlord; watching the doc play priest, watching Tom and Harry screw around with Maggie, seeing crew member go off for a walk near the the shore. Seemed like a nice way to finish your day.

World War 2 - Technically, they were all forced into it but I included it because it was quite heavily featured and involved everyone. Might have been fun to play a really psychotic Nazi. Any excuse to see Seven in a dress riding on a bicycle too.

Photons Be Free - This seems like no fun. Would I like to play a hologram in a Voyager mirror universe. I'd rather play the captain. The only reason I'd want to use this programme would be to spend time with the delightful red head, Three of eight.

My own programme - A murder mystery dinner party with all the bridge crew (plus maybe some of the background crew) and one by one, everyone gets knocked off until someone solves it.

Or - a straight forward Karaoke bar :)

Of course I would go for the Flotter program!

Then I would steal The Doctor's emitter and give it to Flotter so that Flotter could have full access to the whole ship.

No honestly, the Paxua Resort and Sandrine's would be the most logical choice for me.

The Worst Case Scenario program could be fun. But it would be weird coming face to face with myself, like Tom did in one of his scenarios.

Maybe I would set up an own program. A rock club where I could watch all the legends of rock!

I'm not sure that's a holo-program as we know it. Museum curator Quarren denies it being a holodeck, only calling it a simulation. It must function similarly to a holo-program though, since the Doctor quickly learns how to create his own simulaton with it.

As far as I know, the movie theatre and Velocity program were for the whole crew. At least there's no reason why they'd be considered personal, limited to only one person and his/her chosen guests.

I watched Non Sequitur (god it's slow) last night and Sandrines looked even duller than when we see it on VOY. It's rather typical of that era of Trek to think dim lighting and real alcohol makes for a seedy, atmospheric bar

Definitely the Paxua Resort, and for the others mentioned, the movie theatre and Velocity game. Avoid Jane Eyre at all costs! Too much creepiness.

Hmm... A Xena program where I can join in on the adventures. My own personal library, even with all the technology, nothing beats opening an actual book. Visting Ancient Eygpt would be so interesting!

The cinema wasn't ongoing enough and was just a prop for that one episode.

Using the holodeck to play Velocity was like someone using an X-box to play pooh sticks. Also, you could play Velocity in real life. I'm more interested in the fantasy social gathering. When I started the thread, I could've sworn there were more communal programmes but in truth, it was basically just Sandrines, Paxua Resort and Fair Haven. The rest are fairly individualistic in nature (Proton only seemed to appeal to Tom & Harry).

For a ship on such a huge journey, it's slightly surprising that they didn't have more ongoing communal holo-programmes for the crew to socialise together (especially considering they didn't have a ten-forward).

There's no way I was including Seven's quarters and that creepy holo-Chakotay with his sex-pest waistcoat and cheesy wine bottle opening lothario smirk.

Holodecks are so.. active.

But you could use them for curling up with a good book anywhere you wanted!

Nah. I'd rather have a library, like in Beauty and the Beast. I would have a butler show up once in a while to bring me tea and little pastries to nibble on, and we could chat about our favourite books.

Just because it wasn't shown, that doesn't mean people couldn't have used it. Or are you suggesting that the only times in all those 7 years that anyone used the holodeck were in the episodes themselves and absolutely nothing else happened off-screen?

Using the holodeck to play Velocity was like someone using an X-box to play pooh sticks. Also, you could play Velocity in real life.
I have no idea what you're referring to.

So you're suggesting that in addition to the holodecks, Voyager also had a gym, of sorts? (the kind that caters to 24th century sports)

That's what I mean. You could go read in the actual library from Beauty and Beast and have a holo butler bring you things.
