New to Who

Young, young, young Billie "Rose" Piper, before she knew any better.

I think Night of the Doctor is a fixed watch for me whenever I see Day of the Doctor, because its such a strong prologue for the story, and sets up the Warrior nicely. Also, any excuse to see McGann, Tennant and Smith in the same night, is welcome to me. :)

Yeah, "Night" is sort of a bridge between the classic and new series, in a way. When the new series arrived, it wasn't exactly clear what had happened to Paul Mcgann's Doctor, who appeared in the 1996 TV movie (Regenerating from the previous TV series Doctor, Sylvestor McCoy). "Night" finally gives some resolution to that, and also explains developments in the other ____of the Doctor stories. (Name, Day, Time). This was mainly because the producer (Russel T Davies) wanted to sort of go easy on the show's mythology to start.

Unfortunately, Mcgann never really got a proper TV series, partially because the TV movie was a co-production with Fox, and didn't do too well ratings wise. Mcgann has gotten the chance, in addition to "Time", to play the Doctor in a series of audio dramas (and there's a lot of Eighth Doctor novels and comics), but it's not quite the same.

I would really like to erase The Crimson Horror from my memory. Like a lot. Like get in the TARDIS, go back in time, and decide to skip it.

I'm finding the second half of season 7 to be disappointing. Matt is still in top form but I'm just not liking Clara. Not too sure why. Nothing against Jenna Coleman. I'm not comparing her to Amy. I've really tried to like her, it's just not happening. I also kind of miss River. Looking at the few episodes ahead and she's only in one.

It's really episodic.

You're wanting some deeper subplot to bind everything together, which is not there (barely).

(Hell, they even put a nix on two parters.)

One and done, one and done, one and done.

Done.

Maybe. But maybe I would enjoy them more if a certain redhead and nurse had stuck around. I know, I'm a broken record but it's kind of true. People like tv shows not just for the story but for the characters too. I think I would have been okay if River had become the new full-time companion.

Amy and Rory and River were family with the Doctor. That's why Clara feels so different. She is not as close to him as they were.
But she'll grow on you.
She will probably be your anchor after the regeneration and the transition to the new Doctor, who will take some getting used to after Eleven.

You object to the woman getting all that Arrow money in America?

She doesn't just wake up in the morning with hair like that.

I dunno... If she hasn't grown on me while being paired with Eleven, how am I supposed to like her alongside Twelve?

I will say that she and Eleven have pretty good chemistry though.

Huh?

The actress who plays River is now/also on the American Superhero series "Arrow" as one of the regular's mothers. 5 episodes in 2 years?

The pay from 1 American episode of something = The pay from 15 British episodes of something else.

Seems about as good a point as any then to post this short. It was originally the opening of the script for "The Doctor's Wife" by Neil Gaiman, but they couldn't find room for it. Steven Moffat then apparently recycled it and put River in Amy's/Rory's place.

The Doctor & River in "Rain Gods"

There's also a video game out there, "Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock," in which Eleven and River are teamed up throughout. You can find playthroughs on YouTube if you don't want to play it yourself.

River was always the Doctor's companion...when Amy and Rory were sleeping. Though they tended to call them dates and that they were married.

It's possible that the Doctor was controlling Amy and Rory's sleep, or controlling the movement of time in their bedroom, so that there was no overlap with his companions.
