Supergirl TV Series is being work on.

CBS has Thursday Night Football through October, and that causes some shows to debut late. Elementary, for instance, won't be back for its fourth season until November 5th.

Better to start late, then. It used to be that a number of shows premiered in September, then got pre-empted by football after just a few weeks, and thus never found an audience and got quickly cancelled -- something I always found deeply unfair. It's good that premiere dates are now more flexible.

I know that's standard practice for most new shows these days, but I was still hoping they had greenlit the full season already. Because with only 13 it seems like it almost makes it too easy for a network to pull the plug if a show isn't blowing the roof off right away in the ratings.

The worst part is it leaves the writers hanging as how to handle the pace of the season. Do they plan it so 13 can stand as a season finale, leaving the back nine feeling tacked on? Do they plan it as one long season and hope the back nine gets approved?

Or they could simply run a 13 week season but I guess the danger is you could punted to the mid season break.

Sleepy Hollow is made with 13 eps for the first season which worked quite well. When they bumped it to 18eps for S2 things started to fall apart a bit.

Yeah I'd be perfectly fine if they simply decided to have a shorter first season. Because I do think 23 episodes is probably way too many for any show nowadays (save maybe a comedy like Big Bang Theory).

Even as much as I enjoyed the new Flash series, it did feel to me like it stretched on about 5 episodes longer than it really needed to. And Arrow as well seems like it should definitely be shortened up each season.

I am kind of surprised by this, but that could be as long of a season as they want to do. This is going to be an expensive show, so maybe they decided to do 13 so they wouldn't have to spread the budget as thin. After the reaction it's gotten you'd think if they planned on doing a full 22 or 23 episode season they would have ordered it that way now.

Smaller season means a more affordable, faster to be released bluray/DVD, not that that is of any concern to the creatives making the TV show, but its a situation that they can be forced into.

I think that also gives them time to judge the reaction, and then decide if the show will be connect to the Arrowverse or not.

If ratings are bad/expense high, then nothing. If it's good...they may decide to do a crossover, after some individual episodes.

Sometimes seasons of Smallville and Supernatural have felt like filler bookended by the good stuff. While a 13 episode season doesn't guarantee that won't happen I think it's a good size to start with.

I think the "back 9" can be problematic though with a more complex story. I don't think it's probably a good idea to try to squeeze another set of episodes into a 13 episode order. Maybe for sitcoms and the like but otherwise they should probably stick to the 13 for the season.

Now that I've become accustomed to cable series with smaller, more tightly scripted seasons, I have relatively little patience for the old "26 episodes of mostly episodic filler" model.

I definitely prefer more episodes. I've never seen a show that benefited from less episodes. The only reason to make less episodes is so that the people making it spend less money. The Flash didn't have one stinker last season, and that was at 23 episodes. My biggest hope for American TV is that it doesn't copy england and have a puny amount of episodes as a norm. When you have to wait a year between seasons of a show, small seasons are a horrible idea, and I haven't seen them work to the advantage of any show. I've seen 13 episode seasons that were mostly junk (Doctor Who Series 8) and 23 episode seasons that were spectacular (The Flash).

Now, not all 13 episode seasons are bad, far from it, but even the very good ones would benefit from a full 22-26 episode run. I have no idea why anyone would want less of a show they like, but luckily most of the shows I like won't be reducing episodes anytime soon. As for Supergirl, if it does well I can easily seen them ordering more episodes, and if it makes it to Season 2 I bet it will be a full season.

There is a new in universe website for the National City Tribune. The headline is plane rescue in the Pilot. Most surprising of all though is the other articles are about events in the Arrow and The Flash finales! http://nationalcitytribune.com/

Of course this is just a website. Its not part of the Canon for the shows. But its surprising they are doing this when it is not a sure thing that crossovers between Supergirl and the CW shows will happen.

Ha, pretty clever how you get that annoying subscriber pop up any time you click on something.

And I also like that the very last name on the page under "other staff" is Kara Danvers (even though an assistant would obviously never get her name mentioned in the first place).
