Supergirl TV Series is being work on.

I may be a bit late, but (as a Supergirl fan) I enjoyed the pilot. At least what was leaked.

I'm sure, or at least I hope they expand on the character and give us a three-dimensional character that Kara should be. The character hasn't really had a solid identity in comics or any previous onscreen representation.

While I thought the Supergirl film from '84 had a horrible script, I liked Helen Slater in the role and thought she would have been awesome in two more films if the original was up to par.

I'm hoping that they don't make Kara (I'd love her to be Linda Lang, and for her to be introduced in a Superman movie but that won't happen) as syrupy sweet as she was in the 1960's books; that persona would give people diabetes if they didn't have it, and kill anybody that had diabetes. I like the version of Supergirl from the pre-New 52 epoch, and the most recent New 52 version (that's just been cancelled): I'd like to see the producers/writers have the Supergirl of this series be like that.

Have you seen the six minute trailer yet? That will answer your question right there.

Or the 43 minute trailer. ;)

Found this by accident.

My wife and I watched the sequence of Reeves-Donner movies a couple years ago (SM, SMII, SMIII, Supergirl, SMIV, SR). Supergirl has some high points, but it is not actually a good movie. It's frequently boring, lacks suspense, people do a lot of arbitrary things, a lot of the jokes fall flat, and the plot lurches all over the place.

Got around to rewatching this. It's definitely flawed, but it's got a terrific cast for the most part and a fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score, and Helen Slater was delightful, if a bit inexperienced, in the role (and had the most amazing eyes). She was the perfect Supergirl, and I would've loved to see her mature into the role in further -- and better -- movies.

Still, it's better than I thought it was, since it's not just Supergirl and Faye Dunaway fighting over a man like I'd remembered. The man is largely just a pawn and a trophy to Dunaway's Selena as she pursues bigger conquests. However, the "romance" angle itself is horrible. Hart Bochner is slimy and unpleasant, his character has no personality, and the fact that his entire romance with Kara/Linda is the result of a love potion makes their "relationship" not only hollow and superficial, but creepily non-consensual.

I'm really hoping Slater gets a lot of fun and juicy stuff to do in the new TV series, and they don't just have her giving the occasional comforting speech to Kara back home. She still looks great, and it would be cool to see her facing off against Cat Grant or Hank Henshaw or taking on some kind of important role on the series besides just foster mother.

I'm not sure there will be that much more of the Danvers in the series. Cain and Slater only appeared in that Flashback at the beginning (is it a Flashback, or a narrated introduction, or whatever), and one would think that they'd at least call after Kara saved that plane.

I'm afraid they'll be dead in the series. But maybe we'll get the occasional Flashback?! (Dear Greg Berlanti, considering your previous work, I must emphasize the 'occasional' in that last sentence).

Well Slater and Cain were both listed on the production sheet when filming resumed last week, so they'll at least appear in the second episode. And given all the different ways Berlanti has used the parents on Flash and Arrow, I think it's likely we'll see something similar done with the Danvers.

I also doubt they're dead in the present, since that would seem to be a bit too dark and tragic for such a lighthearted show as this (and plus it probably would have been mentioned at some point in the pilot).

I see no reason why the Danverses would be dead. Part of the reason the post-Crisis John Byrne reboot of Superman had Ma and Pa Kent alive and well in the present day (a precedent followed by Lois and Clark and Superman: The Animated Series) is because, due to modern medicine and increased life expectancy, it's simply more common for adults to have two living parents today than it was in the 1940s or '50s.

Besides, Helen Slater is only 51 and Dean Cain only 48. The Danverses are far too young to be deceased, barring accident or illness.

And I agree with davejames, more or less. Berlanti and his team love their nostalgia. They gave John Wesley Shipp a recurring role as his own former character's father. Now they've done the equivalent for Helen Slater, and brought in a former Superman to play her husband -- there's no way they'd be content to use them just once.

Guys, can we not have spoilers please outside of spoiler tags, including anything learned from the leaked pilot, such as discussion of when and how Cain and Slater appear? Thanks!

^The fact that characters appear in an upcoming episode is not a spoiler, it's just casting information. The only way it would be a spoiler is if their appearance were a surprise revealed at the climax of an episode.

It was made public well before the pilot that Cain and Slater would be playing the Danvers.

Yes, but what isn't public, AFAIK, are tidbits such as that they only appear in flashback in the pilot. I said what I meant: I'm only speaking to such things learned from the leaked pilot. If it's not a spoiler, I wasn't speaking to it.

Not to mention that the 6 minute long trailer already showed pretty much everything that happens in the pilot anyway! :p

Some of us strive for maximum ignorance, and do not watch trailers, or look up IMDB listings, or read the trades.

Some of us don't.

Until the episode airs, everything in there no matter how publically revealed by other sources is a spoiler. Actually, even after the episode airs, everything in that episode is still a spoiler here for two weeks? I think it's two weeks.

I've seen the first ten episodes of Supergirl, but I have a pretence of decency not to ruin anyone's future viewing pleasure with random information dumps.-
