I remember seeing the entire original cast in the first Star Trek convention ever held. It was in New York City in 1972 and I was all of 9 years old. My Dad took me and I had a ball.
Nichelle Nichols sat in the captain's chair on a stage that was a reconstruction of the bridge from the series. She declared that Uhura was FINALLY in the chair in which she belonged and the whole place laughed, cheered and applauded.
She knew how to hold a crowd.
I was surprised even then that the entire cast was still alive. I think I knew a couple of people who had died even at that early age (for me) and I knew that accidents happened to people all the time. I considered myself lucky.

I was 31 and had a partial stroke and in 10 days I was out of hospital and on the mend..

Nichelle was on Monday night's "Entertainment Tonight", talking about what happened. She looked great but her speech sounded noticeably off. But not too much.
When asked if she definitely had a stroke. she replied "I don't think about it; so it didn't happen." She said the same thing about Leonard Nimoy dying.
My Mom's about the same age and thinks the same way about some things. That's not really a good way to handle things.
