    Yep.

D&D apparently say that it was GRRM's idea. But if it happens in the books, it seems like it would be Melisandre and Selyse doing it without his knowledge.

Stannis's whole storyline seems to have turned into what Benioff and Weiss need him to do for whatever story they're going to make up for him, rather than what he would have actually done in the situation.

And suddenly Ramsay has magical fire powers? I didn't see arrows or alchemy or anything, just sudden flames.

Stannis held Storm's End for a year. A couple tents burn, though? Better sacrifice my daughter!

    Idiotic.

I have no doubt Shireen will burn in the books, but it won't be because of Stannis.

Surely Davos is gonna have to turn on Stannis for this one. I do appreciate how the show is at least moving things along. Next season should be pretty interesting.

A truly graphic and painful scene to watch, even worse than Sansa's rape, despite both being off-screen.

On a different note, a thought came to mind after watching the episode in regards to Arya's storyline. It's been long theorized that Jaqen H'ghar is in fact Syrio Forel (it's been awhile since I've read A Game of Thrones, so I don't recall if Syrio was confirmed to be dead or just assumed to be dead by Arya). Considering the new direction in storyline for Arya in regards to Meryn Trant (am I the only one disappointed that she probably won't go through the blindness arc?), I wonder if Arya succeeds in killing Trant, only to earn Jaqen's wrath and tells her (after changing into Syrio) he didn't need vengeance?

    Or am I completely reaching?

I never believed that Syrio could have survived, books or show. The Hound explained it clearly last season. Syrio was outnumbered, with a wooden sword, and Meryn Trant was armored and had a big steel sword. There was no reason for Trant to spare him, and as Syrio says, the First Sword of Braavos does not run. He dead.

Now that we have seen Jon's fate on the show, what are the chances he stays dead? There aren't any other viewpoint characters on the Wall, is that storyline dead as well? Or does Jon get revived by Melisandre or Bran somehow?

Good thing Melisandre fled Winterfell and arrived back at the wall just in time for this.

Makes you wonder if she was expecting a great leader to be betrayed and killed by his men. And when she saw Stannis was still alive she realized she made a horrible mistake.

Well, I was completely wrong about Syrio (which is no surprise), but at least he got a name check. And it's good to see I was also wrong about Arya's blindness, even if the order of her storyline is messed up.

If anything, the insistence that he won't be back just solidifies it for me. If he was going to die for good they wouldn't have made a cliffhanger out of it and then IMMEDIATELY went around shouting "WE SWEAR HE IS REALLY DEAD!" to every media outlet that would listen.

What cliffhanger? There was no cliffhanging with Jon Snow. There wasn't even a cliff to hang on to and if there were he's already fallen off it and gone splat. He's dead. Stabbed repeatedly in the gut and neck and left to bleed out in the snow. Unless they're going to shift the Lady Stoneheart story over to Jon Snow I can't see why they'd bring him back.

As for the "oh of course they'd deny it!" line of thinking: exactly what would you expect them to say if they "really" did kill off a much liked main character (again)?

Accept it. Jon Snow knew nothing and won't know anything more ever again. Nothing. ;)

Except that it's called A Song of Ice and Fire, and it's pretty well agreed that Snow's the Ice to Danny's fire. Both are expected to factor in the conclusion.

Jon 'died' several years ago in the books, it wasn't a surprise, and the readers haven't all assumed he's gone for good...
