"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

You're really not in a position to say what RTD was thinking when he put a president-elect inthe middle of the action, it still makes no sense. And it's kind of funny that in Stan Lee's cameo at the end of the Avengers that he laughs at the concept of superheroes in New York. Split between Fox, Sony and Disney the MCU movies for the most part have been set outside of New York in many ways the MCU have gone out of their not to go to New York. Technically of course the X-Men are also set in New York. By setting the characters in New York fixed the city problems being mentioned in the Suicide Squad movie thread.

I wouldn't say they've gone out of their way to avoid the city. It was significantly featured in The Incredible Hulk, CA: TFA, The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Daredevil and Agent Carter. That's almost a third of the movies and more than half of the tv shows.

They have done their best to show that the MCU is a lot more than just NYC, but the MCU is still highly NY-centric.

Agent Carter is in fact moving to LA next season, The Incredible Hulk's ending was set in Harlem and the Avengers'Stark Tower is in midtown which is where Hell's Kitchen is where Daredveil is from. But really teh MCU movies and TV shows have been set by and large outside of New York let alone the city.

Agent Carter hasn't moved yet and Harlem and Hell's Kitchen are a part of New York. Yes, there is more stuff set outside of New York than in it, but New York is still one of the most used locations in the MCU.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that for all the globe trotting, nothing gets revisited as often as New York. Indeed, I'm pretty sure that Tony's Malibu home (before it was blown up) and Stark HQ were the *only* other locations to show up more than once in any significant way.

Well Cap. was living in Washington DC in TWS and really you have to count Asgard, but really there's been three Iron Man movies and the rest of them have only had two movies, so it's alittle unfair at this point.

Unless I'm forgetting something, DC only featured in that one movie (and one very brief scene in AoS) so not terribly relevant.

(ETA I just now remembered the senate hearing scenes in IM2, so fair enough, that's two movies and one scene.)

I'm not counting Asgard since I gather the whole point had to do with the frequent use of a real world location. Regardless it still only showed up twice.

As for the being unfair: the point is that New York has been used by several movies and shows regardless which sub-franchise they belong to. TIH, IM2, TFA, Avengers, AoU, Agent Carter, Daredevil and pretty soon Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-man and almost certainly Doctor Strange too.

That's *way* more than any other place to date.

Most of what posted weren't set or based in New York though. the trope is about how many were based in New York, very few of the characters spend anytime at all in New York and even fewer were based there or even started out there. Ans what's worse is that few of them have even filmed in New York City.

The trope is called 'Everything Happens in...' - it's about significant events taking place somewhere, not the entire movie being set in one place. New York saw Hulk break Harlem, the Battle of New York, the Kingpin's Riots, the creation of Ultron and the Vision, was the home of the supersoldier program, and a major part of the Leviathan conspiracy (because it was apparently the original home of Stark Enterprises). If you count the greater metropolitan area, it seems likely it was the original home of SHIELD, as well (although I'm not sure if anyone ever said exactly where in New Jersey that base was supposedly located).

They're just lucky they're not Tokyo. You know what happens there all the time.

Niether Russia nor Great Britain are continents though.

Yeah, well, the inhabitants of the United States have long since laid claim to the use of the word "America" to describe their country, and we got dibs on it because we were the first people in North or South America to declare independence.
Also, it's the actual name of the country: United States of America. So it can be shortened to United States, the States, America, USA or US.

America refers to the United States of America. Just like Mexico refers to the United Mexican States. America is not a continent or a land mass--those are North America, South America, and Central America which is part of North America--or the Americas can be used to refer to the two continents together.

One thing that gets on my nerve is the use of Norte Americano to refer to people from the U.S.A. as if Canadians, Mexicans, Guatemaltecos, Salvadorans, Hondurans, Belizians, Nicaraguans, Costa Ricans, and Panamanians are not also Norte Americanos.

It amazes me how different people can look with their hair and makeup done differently. I honestly don't know if I would have recognized her in a couple those pictures if I didn't know beforehand.

Glad to hear it. I wonder how much of a time jump we'll get?
EDIT: I don't think anyone posted this. Apparently when Hayley Atwell had to get her newest drivers license picture she was still in her full Peggy Carter costume and makeup.

Geez, I wish my driver's license photo looked that good!!

I want you all to know that I am the reason Agent Carter got renewed. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, when I like a show, somewhere an alarm goes off in some studio executive's office. He then picks up the receiver on a red phone and yells frantically into it, "Cancel it! Cancel it!" This time, to prevent it, I went outside my house and loudly declared, "Boy, I'll be glad when that Agent Carter show is off the air! It can't get canceled soon enough for me!" I did his several times until it was renewed (my neighbors still look at me funny, though).

Your welcome.

Thank you very much.

I'll pay you money if you go outside and yell, "Never bring back Star Trek!"
