"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

whew. I don't know how these Marvel shows are getting renewed with such ratings but I'm relieved. Agent Carter was the only can't miss show for me, and I can't wait to get more.

While I wasn't sure about Agent Carter being renewed, I had little doubt about AoS. Despite it's not so impressive over-nights, Hulu, DVRs and other streaming sources more than make up for it.

Yeah for Agent Carter. I was in the same boat as Turtletrekker on my feelings for both shows. This is great news!!

AoS>3 seasons
AC>2 seasons
DD>2 seasons

Good news, good news.

I kind of thought it would be renewed though. The ratings weren't great, but they were good enough for something that was only supposed to be a gap-filler anyways.

Positive fan reaction sure didn't hurt.

That's fantastic news!

I really didn't think it was going to happen, especially when they started talking about a spinoff, so this is a really nice surprise.

Now maybe they'll give us some DVDs.

Speculation can now begin on what may happen.

  • How much time will pass between S1 & S2?
  • Fallout from the events of S1, do they take place off camera? Tied to the first question?
  • Will the Howling Commandoes be more incorporated?
  • Could we get any era specific Enhanced/Super? Union Jack? Original Human Torch?
  • Would any of the replacement Captain America's be too much? William Nasland,Jeffery Mace or William Burnside--what with Cap starting off as a PR stunt to raise funds for War Bonds it could be a "can we capture lightning in a bottle" type thing. Only for it to fail. Maybe an episode or two type thing.

Season 1 was set in 1946. Peggy is still supposed to show up in Ant Man later this year but I don't know what year.

In CATWS, the film footage at the Smithsonian had her still a member of the SSR in 1953.

There's plenty of time to fill in, maybe we'll find out when SHIELD was established.

I enjoyed season one very much, but I hope that we see real evolution of the story. I want Peggy to be more respected by her colleagues, for example, and not a reboot of the office sexism issue.

Obviously ratings are over-rated where something the Mouse owns is concerned. What the Mouse wants the Mouse gets.

Betcha somebody's ass is on a hook though..., 'Next season better deliver or you'll be made into Mouse food!' ;)

Good luck with that. The show is based in the mid-40's, even if they jump ahead two whole decades Women's Lib only just got started but the late 60's!

Basically what you're asking for is for them to remove one of the primary underlying themes and possibly *the* major hook for the series: a woman in a man's world, doing a "man's job".
It's not just expressed in how Peggy's co-workers deal with her, it's in society at large and it permeates every facet of the series from her waitress/struggling actor friend to even her nemesis in the form of Dotty (or whatever her real name is.)

It's like asking for more Iron Man but without all the funny quips and crazy gadgets.

Maybe they can show she earned the respect of those she works for and with. Yet still show the inherit sexism of the time by using outside forces this time.

Most likely a mix of both. We know she's earned both Thompson's and Sousa's respect by now, but that didn't stop Thompson from taking credit for her achievements.

Anyone know if season one has been picked up by a U.K. station, or if it's coming out to buy anytime soon ?

No clue about the UK, but we haven't heard anything about a US dvd release yet. Presumably it'll show up at the same time as AOS season 2, in August/September.

I'd expect it December/January, a week before S2 starts airing. That seems to be the standard practice in the US - don't bother going you time to catch up before the show starts again.
