I'm of two minds on "Marauders"... what are your thoughts?

A couple of people have said that this episode seemed like TNG lite but I always thought it had a campy TOS vibe to it. I half expected the plan to fail and some pacifist aliens who evolved into noncoporeal beings with magic powers to show up and teach them all the errors of their ways.

I agree with everyone who said this episode was nonsensical. About the only worthwhile thing for me was Trip's bonding with the kid. But then, i always pictured Trip as being good with kids .

Oh, and of course the shallow part of me enjoyed the Enterprise men in the hot desert with their "desert" uniforms.

Yeah, you hate ENT. We already knew that.
Yeah, and? Any particular reason why you felt the need to point that out?

Because to post a general rant against a show in that show's forum is a rude thing to do. There are series I don't like, but I'm not going into the forums dedicated to those shows just to shit on them. I have more social awareness and consideration for others than that.

Excuse me, Mr. Perfect. I was answering Jeff O'Connor's post, not posting a "general rant." And I didn't read anywhere in the posting rules for the TrekBBS that you can't express your personal opinions about a show you don't like. If you think it's rude that's your problem.

The whole scene with Trip and the kid, blech.

Seeing a portable mining community, :techman:

Klingon Crips get screwed over, YES!

No real solution to it all happening again, dumb.

Really kinda boring. Needed more dune buggies.

I much prefer A Night in Sick Bay, because I enjoy the character-based comedy. The story of Marauders could be told with any characters, it's so generic.
A Night in Sick Bay was mostly awkward, cringeworthy, and borderline offensive. It actually made me feel uncomfortable.

Whereas Marauders was entirely vanilla. Dull, forgettable, unambitious... A textbook example of a filler.

And to think Season 2 started off on a real high note... Carbon Creek, Minefield and Dead Stop were all terrific episodes. Then came A Night in Sickbay, and the whole caravan of crappy episodes followed, which was also followed by an inevitable ratings decline.

Season 2 pretty much doomed the show.

I agree, Season 2 started off quite well. I like the premiere, too, but I recognize that that one's a bit less well-received overall. Those first four episodes were the creative team throwing on some of their then-best and hoping the rest of the early lot wouldn't bleed viewership. That's what it feels like, anyway.

"A Night in Sickbay" is a divisive episode, and I actually come down on the "It's not so bad" side. It's nice to see a strictly character-driven story where nobody's in any physical danger (except Porthos), and the episode is a good focus for Dr. Phlox, revealing a lot about him and his family. Sure, it has the unfortunate thread of the Archer-T'Pol sexual tension, but on the positive side, it puts a decisive end to that tension by forcing Archer to confront it and move beyond it.

Enterprise needed more of that. DS9 was a textbook example of a perfect balance between character-driven and plot-driven stories, I think.

Yeah... But it just played-out so freaking awkwardly... I'd preferred if Archer dealt with it off-screen, honestly.

I have an unfortunate tendency to overstate bad things to other people. I warned my friend about "A Night in Sickbay" being a very, very poorly-received episode before we watched it, and when it was over, she shrugged and said it wasn't good but it wasn't awful.

I really need to stop overstating bad things.

Except maybe TATV. I should maybe probably kinda sorta warn her on that one. Maybe.

Except the thing with Trip didn't begin until a year later.
I think the whole Trip/T'Pol thing was based on the obvious sexual tension between the two characters that dates as far back as Broken Bow. I still remember my first viewing of the pilot back in the early 2000's, there was this scene... And no, I don't mean decontamination, there was this staredown... And I remember going "holy shit, these two are totally gonna do it!"

I don't think it's possible to overstate how bad that one is. The only good part is the closing montage with the three Enterprises.

You might want to watch that line of talk before someone thinks you're being rude and not socially aware and considerate for others. ;)

I don't follow. :alienblush:
