Garak in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement + first look at the Cover!

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Kirsten Beyer recently did a podcast discussing her novel Children of the storm and discussing her upcoming Voyager books over at at The Captains table. link http://www.visionarytrek.com

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

The background for the cover reminds me of that British apartment we saw on "Trekkies 2".

Can't wait to read "Atonement" or it's follow-up, "A Pocket Full Of Lies".

That cover is sleek and to the point; it's gorgeous. Thanks!

It's gorgeous - can't wait to read it either!

Is Atonement Beyer's last Voyager novel? :(

If so, who takes up her mantle afterwards?

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

And here we have the '@' on the '2' key! You're in some freaky mixed-up mirror world, man!

Or am I...? :wtf::eek:

I had this problem recently when the " on my 2 key became @, and vice versa. I was nearly in a state of panic thinking maybe I had a virus or I did something to damage my laptop. Contacted my IT friend and he said the language settings on my computer had switched from English (UK) to English (American).

I love how we all speak English but create these differences just to confuse ourselves. And I am writing this on my laptop in Ireland!

Switching from American to British English is bad enough. Be glad, that it didn't turn into Chinese or Dominionese.

Or just 'Minionese'. :D

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

I definitely look forward to the upcoming Voyager books. Kirsten said in the podcast A pocket full of lies was going to be coming either January 2016 or February 2016.

544 pages? Sweet! The only downside to that is the end of August is almost always a busy time for me.

Admiral Kathryn Janeway faces a tribunal determined to execute her for supposed crimes committed during Voyager’s maiden trek through the Delta Quadrant. Captain Chakotay knows that the Kinara, several species now allied against the Full Circle fleet, are not all they appear to be. The Confederacy of the Worlds of the First Quadrant—a pact he cannot trust—is his only hope for unraveling the Kinara’s true agenda and rescuing Admiral Janeway. Meanwhile, Seven and Tom Paris are forced to betray the trust of their superiors in a desperate bid to reveal the lengths to which a fellow officer has gone in the name of protecting the Federation from the legendary Caeliar.

Like this! Nice to have a character on the front.

In the announcement that also announced DRG's "Ascendance", I remember it was said there was going to be a 6-7 month gap between the two Voyager novels.

It is an advantage for me, as I read Kirsten's novel in ther original and in the German edition. The German publisher is lagging behind somewhat but does a great job of catching up. While waiting for Atonement I'm currently reading the German edition of Unworthy. :) So I don't have to wait too long for one of Kirsten's novels. ;)

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

Hello, friends...

It's been awhile. Sorry about that. Atonement is all but done. I think I get to read it one more time before it goes out into the world. A Pocket Full of Lies is written but has yet to go through production...copy-edits, first and second passes, etc. It is on the schedule for release on January 26, 2016, making it the "February" book for that year.

And now, a little housekeeping...

Garak meets Janeway. This should be good. *gets popcorn*

The popcorn is always a good idea, but in the interest of appropriate expectations....Garak does not meet Janeway in Atonement. She remains in the Delta Quadrant while he is still in the Alpha Quadrant as Cardassia's Ambassador to the Federation. To say more about who he does meet with might be spoiling things, so I won't.

And yes, chatting with Una regarding his appearance was a great deal of fun. I only wish she and I had cause to collaborate more often as she is a spectacular writer. She was most helpful in suggestions, and also provided me with an number of great excerpts to read to add to my understanding of the character. Also, an excellent excuse to finally read A Stitch in Time, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

(Apologies, I lost the quote on this one)

Atonement, coming out in September 2015, will be followed by A Pocket Full of Lies in February 2016. After that, nothing has yet been decided, but for my part, I like that mantle right where it is, thanks.

544 pages? Sweet! The only downside to that is the end of August is almost always a busy time for me.

I mentioned this a long time ago when Amazon first posted the page count for Atonement. That is simply a mistake. While the word count is my current standard these days...around 120,000 words, the book has been formatted, as is also standard these days, to come it at 400 pages.

As always, I am looking forward to chatting with all of you in a few months when Atonement comes out. If there are any questions in the interim, ask away and I will try and make myself more available to answer them.

Best,
Kirsten Beyer

Glad to have you back in the forum, Kirsten.

I'm looking forward to reading Atonement. The storylines I'm curious about most are the Sharak/Samantha plot, what happens to Seven, Tom and Julia Paris in the AQ and Janeway's trial of course. Vorik's and Tuvok's odd behaviour towards Janeway is another issue I'm curious about how it is dealt with.

Garak stays in the AQ - I thought as much. Shortly after Atonement has been released the Germans start with the release of the `The Fall´ novels. Much fun to looking forward to.

In the interim I'm spending my time with rereading your older Voyager novels in German (recently finished Unworthy/Unwürdig). German publisher Cross Cult designs new cover for most of the Star Trek novels. It's big fun to read them twice, also in a foreign language.

I'm loving the Voyager relaunch series; I just finished Acts of Contrition last night!

All of the characters that had little development in the series have a lot more depth and are written wonderfully. I'm pretty excited for Atonement and the conclusion of this story arc. In the meantime I'll keep trying to power through the Typhon Pact novels.

I picked up the e-book edition of Acts of Contrition recently, and I'm planning on it being one of the next things I read, so there's a pretty good chance I might actually be able to get and read Atonement on release day. It would be the first book in years that I'll be reading on release day, I'm several books behind on pretty much every other series I'm currently reading.
