Garak in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement + first look at the Cover!

I picked up the e-book edition of Acts of Contrition recently, and I'm planning on it being one of the next things I read, so there's a pretty good chance I might actually be able to get and read Atonement on release day. It would be the first book in years that I'll be reading on release day, I'm several books behind on pretty much every other series I'm currently reading.

I'm behind, because I have a lot of catching up to do with older novels. Besides I'm a bit slow at reading books in English. But Kirsten's Voyager novels are the only ones I always read in the original as soon as they are released. :)

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

I like that cover. It's simple, but it still gets it's point across.

I didn't realize different English speaking countries had different keyboard layouts. I had always assumed that every country that used the English alphabet used the same keyboard layout.

Well the UK needs to make use of £ and € signs so that's one difference. Other slight difference between a UK and US is one of the Alt keys is replaced with the Alt Gr key which allows some accented letters such as á é í ó ú as well as the aforementioned € sign. And the \ is moved next to Z key on the UK keyboard.

I just wanted to write English with my German keyboard layout without switching to US layout. It switches automatically, but you can set it so that you can write in your language with the layout you are used to. It took me some tinkering, though. And to contain the confusion, I just installed American English with German keyboard layout. Germans have letters like Ä, Ö and so on. But I don't need a keyboard where a Y appears when I type Z.....

I'm happy. When Atonement is released, the German edition of `Children of the Storm´ (Kinder des Sturms, with Seven on the cover) will be released, too. :)

Re: Elim Garak to appear in Kirsten Beyer´s Atonement

And yes, chatting with Una regarding his appearance was a great deal of fun. I only wish she and I had cause to collaborate more often as she is a spectacular writer.
Can I just say how much I would love to see an honest-to-gosh Beyer-McCormack collaborative project?

More women power in the litverse would be much appreciated :techman:.

I know Una usually hangs around DS9, but when Voyager goes beyond KMFB-only written books, I'd love to see Una join in on the various Delta quadrant Starfleet groups adventures. She'd kill it :techman:

So have any people here seen the blurb for Pocketful of LIes posted on Trek Today (June 29). It seems to have a BIG spoiler for Atonement, so maybe don't look if you don't want to know what's there, heh.

Too late for me but thanks for the warning.

I looked it over, I don't see any spoilers for Atonement, and indeed the article has no spoiler warning for A Pocketful of Lies but they do have a warning for the blurb of the next Enterprise novel having spoilers for Uncertain Logic,

Um well for me the mentioning of XXXX in the PFOL blurb is a big SPOILER for Atonement's story premise, but guess YMMV for different folks. But anywho sounds like the next next Voy. book may be pretty interesting, guess we'll see!

I think I know what you're referring to, but to be honest, I already figured that was how Atonement was going to turn out anyway, so no, it's not really a spoiler to me.

That's fine, for me it was a big "SPOILER", well at least for the Atonement storyline. As w/ most fiction, readers can't really know what all may happen in an upcoming novel unless they can finally get to have the book to look at.

^Are you guys talking about
Janeway
? You didn't really think Kirsten
would kill her off when she just brought her back, did you?

I'm assuming that's who we're discussing, yes. And yes, it's your logic that made me figure the outcome of Atonement should be obvious and therefore not a spoiler to reveal in advance.

that the description spoiled that there was a second Janeway running around. I wondered if it was Meegan running around causing more trouble.

All that questions should be answered in due time. I'm really looking forward to Atonement. And this time we don't have to wait a long time for the next novel (PFOL). :)

I think we have to trust that whoever wrote the blurb didn't reveal anything significant to the story and that particular point is something revealed early on, not a shocking twist from the end or even a halfway through game changer.

I was wondering if it was somehow connected Dala, Zar, and Mobar.

Nope.

But boy, that's a really interesting thought.

For anyone who may have been worried about Admiral Janeway living through the events of Atonement, I'm pleased that you were worried, but no, not going there again. Let's just say...it's been done and I have no interest in repeating the past.

As for some of PFOL being spoiled, I'm surprised at that catalogue blurb...it missed the juiciest spoiler in that one was far as I'm concerned.

While the story of the "other" Janeway has been rolling around in my head for years (with almost no chance of ever seeing the light of day for the longest time) the reason to tell this story now was largely because the timing allowed me to bring Tuvok back for this particular adventure.

By all means, enjoy yourselves for the next few months.

Best,
KMFB
