Thunderbirds Are Go - 2015 Series

I'm beginning to think that Jeff is going to be absent from this series. That's pretty discouraging.

Jeff was killed on a rescue mission

One of the interviews upthread contradicts that claim - the one with the female producer iirc.

So the person from the premiere might have been mistaken.

^They weren't.

I rather enjoyed it, plus the new look Thunderbirds do look very nice in action.

Hm. Anyway, I watched it, and I guess it's... okay.

It works pretty well for the most part, if not for one thing: the pacing. Things happen much too fast. Since the original series was an hour long, it didn't have such a problem.

And another thing: the whole bit with Jeff counting down every single time any Thunderbird launches got ridiculous in a hurry. I mean it was cute the first time, but after that, it was just overdoing it.

(Also - Thunderbird S? Why not Thunderbird 6? Keeping with the rest of the numbered series?)

I loved it! The practical effects were great and the CGI was serviceable. I didn't like the new uniforms but, alas, I don't think the old ones would be very popular nowadays.

I very much liked it. The by-product of it being shorter episodes means it gets a bit hectic, and that means the pacing feels off; also the countdown every time a vehicle launches might grate by the end of 26 episodes. I'm actually okay with Jeff not being in the series, so far, as it at least means John Tracy now has something to do other than stare at the stars. John directing the rescues seems more appropriate from his position.

Welp, I really really enjoyed it. I have my criticisms, namely echoing others with the pacing but also Rosamond Pike's Lady P sounds fake as hell. It sounds like shes forcing her voice higher and it just sounds weird. Her natural voice would have worked fine, I don't know why shes doing that.

Aside from those two niggles though, whats actually IN the show I really loved. Can't wait for more and I hope they manage to balance the episodes better the longer it goes on.

Very enjoyable. I'm a bit concerned that the pace was too fast - it affected the tension-building that was so great about the original. However, the second half seemed to do a better job. I think they were rushing a bit to try and showcase everything in one go so it may settle down. Overall it was very enjoyable with plenty of the spirit of the original and a great cast.

It was good to see Tintin (now Kayo) elevated to a full member of the rescue team, although her specific role seemed a bit forced for the opener. She seems to have lost her mischievousness sense of humour though, which has led to a weird change in dynamic with Alan. Even so, it's clearly something the writers want to build on.

The real revelation is going to be Granny. She was always so sweet and, I always assumed, drunk but she seems to have sobered up and manned up. I'm intrigued!

Now THAT, Mr Frakes, is how modern thunderbirds should be done!

A+++

Surprisingly the only part I didn't like was Grandma! They even had a homage to "TinTin"s name, and had an in universe explanation for the apparent legal wrangles. Plenty of opportunity to bring in Kyrano and Jeff in the future.

Only niggle - where did Gordon go during the Taiwan rescue? They took pod 3 (for some reason?) and I assume Gordon was going to do a tb4 direct launch (ala Empire State episode) to get to the rescue zone, but we didn't hear anything more from him.

Tb4 itself was always the worst as a kid, slow and boring. that may have changed. The back flip manoeuvre is inspired. The other machines were spot on. Yes I know boarding tB3 was slightly different, but it was far more than a homage.

Given the politics at the moment, I wonder who Lady P met in number Ten to buy some time.

John had plenty to do, and I think having tb5 coordinate rather than Jeff makes sense in today's moddern world, or at least as much sense as it's going to make if you try to merge a manned Comms satelite with the 21st century.

Was it me or did the undersea base evoke Sidewinder thoughts?

As the parent of a (nearly) 3 year old boy, I'm afraid he's still a bit too young to watch. I was expecting the opening scene to end up with "Call Sam! Call fireman Sam!", which I guess shows how my viewing habits have changed over the last 20 years. I still remember the excitement I had about (while on holiday in Port Isaac) getting the latest issue of the 1990s comic, which was during a "Hood invades Tracey Island" story. This was the era of the Blue Peter build your own Tracey island. It's amazing how time flys, and how some things are constant. The excitement of seeing a swimming pool vanish is still there, and I cant wait to explain tb1's sonic booms.

Oh, and pro-tip from a sim city 2000 player, don't build your solar collectors in the middle of the city!

I had very low expectations, tried to avoid hype not wanting to get burned. Didn't need to, was awesome in every way! Spent the entire time grinning while I watched, was like being a kid back in the 90s again. Definitely looking forward for more.

Lots of injokes from across Anderson and other franchises: surprised no-one's comments that with wings extended, FAB1 looks just like Supercar with a pink paint job.
And in part two, Thunderbird 3 approaching the Hood's satellite is a shot for shot match to a shot from Star Cops episode four: that might just be a coincidence, but the music briefly riffs off the Star Cops score (the sinister motif) at that moment, exactly like the original.

I missed the latter one. Interesting that this rescue was almost a remake of one from the old show. SPOILERS, obviously:

Nice start but just way too much crammed into it and i feel like i'm watching it on fast forward. The sound effects don't gel together. They are very clean and crisp, there's no background noise. We hear wind but voices are obviously detached from the characters, especially brains. Not a patch on how the old series started but i'm sticking with it for now.
