"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

^This. And people put waaaaay too much stock into over-night and Neilson numbers, which really don't mean much in 2015. After taking into acount Hulu, DVRs and other streaming sources, both AoS and AC are doing alright. Well enough, at least, to justify continuing on. I, myself, only have watched AC and AoS (or any other current show, for that matter) on Hulu.

One of my biggest problems with TV by the Numbers is their refusal to take anything other than overnight ratings into account.

Are overnights still the biggest indicator of a show's success and future renewal or cancellation? Yes. Are they the only factor? Not anymore.

And I didn't mean that AoS and AC are just commercials for Marvel, but that their ability to promote the Marvel brand bolsters their numbers.

If a lot of people are like me, I DVR everything I watch. I usually don't watch what ever I DVR until a few days or weeks later. I have like 15 Modern Family sitting on the DVR right now, at some point I will watch them. I think most people who DVR watch it at least a day later if not more.

I could not help but go  when they put two evil sciences in the cell together.
But seeing Toby Jones really made we wish we could have had 2nd season.
Also how does Dr Faustus eat?

So what if Haley won't or can't come back (full time for season 2)?

Chad Michael Murray is a leading man. 6 seasons of One tree Hill and a few movies. He could carry the show in theory, but it would be an entirely different dynamic, and probably have to be retitled a little bit.

A Batman/Catwoman relationship with Thompson and Bridget Reagan's character would be hilariously dangerous.

Actually frak it.

Call the new show "Black Widow: 1950" and make it about Jack chasing her as she does a whole bunch of awful things to bring down America.

Why can't a US TV show be named after a villain terrorist synonymous with Death to America?

No redemption. Please god, no redemption. Just keep her evil. That was the stupidest thing about the first GI Joe Movie. The producers must have had the conversion involving these moving parts: Sienna Miller can't play the baddie, but she looks great as the baddie, so lets make the baddie a goodie, even though half the hotness about the baddie is that she is baddie, but we'll make her a goodie anyway so that she can kiss Duke (Channing Tatum) and we can make a movie poster out of that. His hotness makes her good. Yeah, like Snow White, except she's not not in a coma getting felt up by a necrophile, but he's kissing the evil out of her.

There was a (Legendary Journey's)Hercules movie where Hypolita played by that Touched by an Angel woman said to Sorbo something like "Have you no dignity? I killed all your friends yesterday and you still want to #### me? You are weak and stupid, but hell if you want a roll in the hay, why not, but I'll probably kill you right after."

Evil is sexy.

I can buy it. I mean sure, in an ideal world you want to keep your mad scientists in solitary confinement but do you have any idea how much one of those things costs?! The SSR isn't made of money and then there's the budget cuts and the Christmas party is coming up...Plus nobody wants to bunk with Reinhardt. He snores. ;)

Seriously though, yes, it's a contrivance, but I don't care. It was cool seeing Zola in the flesh again.

It's just as easy to assume that Zola bribed someone in the prison to make sure he would be in that cell waiting for Fennhoff to arrive.

If you're watching things weeks later then your numbers don't count. The ad rates are determined by C+3. Sure they're different from overnights, but last I've seen they're pretty correlated.

TVByTheNumbers has Agent Cater on the negative side as likely to be cancelled. They tend to be pretty good. So unless there is some joint financing deal in place to help the show, I'd wager it's done. Of course it was originally a Netflix show so going back to Netflix is always a possibility if Netflix thinks the show works to drive subscribers.

Also it's a comic book show. Stuff like that is to be expected. ;)

Also is Sousa the guy peggy ends up getting married to?

Unknown. Possibly. Probably not. Take you pick at this stage. IIRC the footage of her talking about her husband in TWS was dated 1953 and the photos of her and her children looked like late 50's, maybe early 60's going by the dress, so there's plenty of time for that to happen.

Personally I like the idea that she married a man who wasn't part of her world and was able to have a somewhat normal home life. I also like the idea that she was a career woman and the breadwinner in a 50's household.

Bit of a weird thought, but given how close Peggy & Howard continue to be after the war, I wonder if she was a part of Tony's life at all growing up, or had they fallen out of touch by the time Howard had settled down?

I'm also curious to see how they could establish a connection between Carter & Fury. Presumably she was still Director when he was an Agent. Indeed, if they go with SLJ's idea that Fury was around in the 40's and was injected with one of the army's attempted super-soldier serums (hence the slow ageing) then he could conceivably show up on the show.

I think she mentioned that her husband had been saved by Cap during the war. I kept expecting Sousa to bring it up as a hint to the audience.

A lot of people served in the war and very few of them became government agents. Most were demobbed and went straight back to civvy street.

Have the Overnight Fast Neilson Numbers come in yet? I've not googled up any with my attempts.

Despite consecutive episodes losing viewers I'm hoping for some, at best, marginal uptick since it was the finale.

No finale uptick. Tuesday final rating: 1.3

Ove the final 5 episodes of the series, the ratings have held fairly steady. I think that ought to count for something.

It's also worth noting that The Voice had it's premiere this week, so that's some big competition that wasn't there last Tuesday.

ABC put out a press release claiming to be happy with Agent Carter's numbers:

Marvel’s Agent Carter (9-10pm – 4.0 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49): At 9pm against the final hour of The Voice opener, ABC’s season finale of Marvel’s Agent Carter was even week to week among Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.4/4) and beat Fox’s comedies in the hour (New Girl/The Mindy Project = 1.2/4)

On average during its run, Marvel’s Agent Carter improved Tuesday’s 9pm hour for ABC by 2.0 million viewers (6.7 million vs. 4.7 million) and by 25% in Adults 18-49 (2.0/6 vs. 1.6/4) over the comparable weeks last year.

Maybe it shows that Zola has already cultivated allies within the government and arranged for Fennhoff to be placed in his cell. After all, given his future involvement with Operation Paperclip, we know his scientific knowledge gives him leverage, so maybe he's negotiated for favors in exchange for his cooperation.

Good point. Zola was already cooperating by that point, and he may have simply said "put me in a cell with Fenhoff so I can pick his brain".

When it comes to the corruption of SHIELD, I'm sure there were some at the SSR who thought his techniques on mind control would have useful practical purposes (although perhaps Fenhoff wouldn't be the most trustworthy person to implement the ideas). Zola could learn it instead and report that information to the SSR (whether he ever did is a different question).

I also think it could be arrogance on the part of the SSR throwing them in jail and not expecting them to be able to do anything about it. It is a government agency, after all.

I think Fenhoff will be eating through a straw. All that boiled food in a blender.
