‘Superman & Batman’ movie will follow ‘Man of Steel’

They should get Roman Reigns to be Aqualad.

Looks like they're playing the "See, Aquaman's really a bad-ass" card.

Well most people do associate Aquaman with being a lame hero. He never could shake the reputation he earned on the Superfriends except with comicbook fans.

Though I sometimes wonder if it's not comicbook fans who perpetuate that notion the most. Like the only ones who are trolling on Aquaman are the ones who know he is not like that in the comics. I'm not sure if the public-at-large feels like that but I don't know.

I like Momoa, he seems like a cool dude, but he is typecasted a lot, most of his roles are all variatins of the stoic warrior. That's not his fault of course, I wish he could score a part that challenges him more as an actor. Since I have no investment in Aquaman whatsoever I'm more than ok with the casting.

It's not as if this is a wildly different take on the character's look that we've never seen before.

Yeah Snyder definitely is taking inspiration from the Peter David Aquaman from the 90's.

So that makes the current movie characters
Superman based off 1986 Man of Steel by John Byrne

Batman based off the 1985 TDKReturns by Frank Miller

Wonder Womanfrom 2011 Brian Azzerello reboot

Aquaman from 1996.

I wonder wear they'll base Flash, Cyborg and GL.

It's what they added(the tats) and what they omitted(blonde hair).

Polynesian culture has it's great points no doubt. The tats they are adding to represent that are not Aquaman though. Atlantis is not and has never been tied to Pacific island culture. It's always been of European lore.
The blonde hair is a large part, if not the reason, he was cast off to Mercy Reef to die. The hair color was symptomatic of a curse and/or defect in a similar manner that Spartan children were inspected. Again, European ties.

Warrior Aquaman is indeed cool and the armor and trident he sports in spot on. It's the additions/subtractions area that they got wrong. I know the masses won't care, Snyder & the suits know this, it's not like his origin and look are so super well known it'll alienate. It is worth noting though the things they unnecessarily got/made wrong just for the sake of doing so, not that is was necessary.

Honestly, as much as I love DC, Aquaman's comic history has never been something I cared too much about. The costume Snyder came up with looks really cool and badass, and is radically different from any superhero look we've seen before on screen, and that's good enough for me.

Maybe the tattoos are there to represent this Aquaman's human heritage, rather than his Atlantean one. We don't really know yet.

I really like comics Aquaman and the whole "noble King Arthur" thing he's got going on. I'll be kind of sad if that goes away.

BUT this looks really interesting and I'm totally onboard with it. What a cool (and organic) way to diversify the DC films. (Also, thinking ahead if do bring in Black Manta to be a major villain it won't look so awkward having him up against lily-white Aquaman).

I know the masses won't care

I've been reading comics for 30 years, and I don't care. So they gave him tatts and modified the colour of his hair. What's the big deal?

I haven't read the article, only looked at the picture, but are they confirmed as being tattoos by someone involved in the production, or is everyone just assuming they are? It could just as easily be some kind of Atlantean war paint.

^Given that they're based on actual Polynesian tattoos (including ones that Momoa actually has), I doubt they're intended to be body paint.

Besides, he's Aquaman. He lives in the water. I don't see paint really working out for him. ;)

Yeah, the article says they're actual tattoos and implies a very strong connection to Polynesian culture.

Atlantean paint is waterproof. ;)

You have to keep in mind who you're talking to; Captain Craig said a few years ago that Laurence Fishburne being cast as Perry White was just stunt casting because he's black.
