15 months after The Fall: Crimson Shadow (the highest-ranked entry in the The Fall mini-series), Una McCormack returns to close out 2014 with what promises to be another interesting window into the complicated socio-politics of 24th century - as The Missing's featured character Katherine Pulaski is unlikely to be shy with her opinions on them. Official street date: December 30th.

Blurb:

An original novel set in the universe of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—a direct sequel to the New York Times bestselling story arc, The Fall!

The entire sector is waiting to see what the newly reopened Bajoran wormhole will mean for the shifting political landscape in the Alpha Quadrant. On Deep Space 9, Captain Ro Laren is suddenly drawn into the affairs of the People of the Open Sky, who have come to the station in search of sanctuary. Despite the opposition of the station's security officer, Jefferson Blackmer, Ro Laren and Deep Space 9's new CMO, Doctor Beverly Crusher, offer the People aid. But when Dr. Crusher’s highly secure files are accessed without permission—the same files that hold the secrets of the Shedai, a race whose powerful but half-understood scientific secrets solved the Andorian catastrophe—the People seem the likeliest suspects.

As tensions rise on the station, the science vessel Athene Donald arrives as part of its journey of exploration. The brainchild of Doctor Katherine Pulaski, this ship is crewed by different species from the Khitomer Accords and the Typhon Pact. Pulaski’s hope is that science will do what diplomacy has not: help the great powers put aside their hostilities and work together. But when the Athene Donald is summarily stopped in her voyage by the powerful vessel of a hitherto unknown species, Pulaski begins to wonder—will this first contact bring her crew together or tear them all apart?

Unfortunately the Simon & Schuster book page doesn't offer an excerpt from The Missing at this time.

There's an excerpt on Amazon. Can't wait!!

Thanks for sharing! I looked it over (not delving too deeply). It's immensely rewarding to see familiar characters in a new stage of their lives. It's like keeping in touch with old class mates.

I was a little wary of this book with three TNG characters being in it; reading that excerpt, the appearance of a main DS9 character in the novel has really changed my mind!

Guys, I just noticed that JWolf opened a review thread for this a full month ago already. I do check for existing threads before making mine, but not that far back. What do we do?

As there aren't votes in either poll yet, I think it wouldn't do any harm to merge the threads, but that would be trampledamage's decision.

^ If we merge them it'd be cool if the title of this one could be used, since it's more consistent with the others ("DS9:" prefix, etc.).

Good idea. That will make it easier to unearth the thread down the road. :bolian:

Just picked up my copy at the book store. Boy with the size of the text and thickness of the book it reminds me of a 1990's DS9 novel.

But I'll get into it after I finish Leslie McFarlane's Christmas Classic "The Mystery Of Cabin Island".

Just read the excerpt. May I say from what I read, I'm stoked for new DS9, especially this novel. Can't wait for it to get here fast enough. :)

Just picked up my copy. Going to start it later today. Very excited for a new Una story, but i'm surprised it's so thin. At least it seems hat way. Only 307 pages, which I believe is at least 20-30 pages less than Crimson Shadow was. Reminds me of the thinner books that were coming out when 2 trek books a month were the norm.

This novel is one I can't wait to read when I can get a copy in a few weeks .The bad weather makes it harder to get the books in the mail .After listening to Una discuss this book on 2 different podcasts I can't wait to see what the ds9 crew has been up to since The fall miniseries.

Re: Deep Space Nine: The Missing by Una McCormack Review Thread Spoile

When did Lucy Ricardo become The Doctor?

Hey, she owned the whole damn studio once. And is Sybok's mother-in-law. Since Sybok's mother was "a Vulcan princess", doesn't that make Lucy Queen of the Galaxy?
