Sons of Anarchy - The Final Season

It has become something of a fantastical world, where logic and reason have no purchase. I think Sutter simply wanted to turn it all up to "11" now that he's in his last season and has nothing to lose.

Well, that was certainly a hell of a final scene!

I think I'm going to revise my original prediction. For some reason, after tonights "fucktage" montage at the beginning of the show, I have a sneaking suspicion that just about everyone is going to get killed off except Wendy. Maybe it's a fluke thought, something to do with the "sin" of sex. I don't know. Just a random thought that occurred to me.

I was convinced T.O. and then later Tyler were going to be dust, but I'm glad I was wrong. The club getting righteous bloody revenge for Bobby was awesome. And good on Unser for taking care of business on his end.

I'd say "Poor Juice" but he really brought all this on himself.

Easily the most beautiful scene in the show though was that between Tig and Venus. I don't know how he did it, but Kurt Sutter found a way to throw in a beautiful pro-nontraditional love story in the middle of all this shit this season and even though the Chibs/Jarry stuff has been all over the place, the real love story I think this season is clearly between Tig and Venus.

Finally, I'd hate to be Gemma next week!

I actually enjoyed that episode, even if there was plenty of stupid in it. Maybe I'm just in a good mood. I'm glad the Child of the Corn finally clued Jax in on Gemma. The final 3 should be fun, so long as they provide an appropriate body count.

I am hoping Abel will take Gemma out. He seems to be the only one capable of creating and carrying out a plan successfully in this show. Not only successfully, but with minimal collateral damage. He's a veritable mastermind compared to the rest. This all might be part of his long game.

Agreed 100% Walton Goggins and Kim Coates acted the hell out of that scene. In fact, I would go as far as saying Venus has been the best parts of this whole ridiculous season.

That being said, while the aforementioned scene and the final minutes were very good (as well as the revenge against Moses), there is one thing about this episode that really, really bothers:

Why the hell didn't anyone give Abel medical treatment for his arm?!?! The kid scraped his arm with a metal fork for fuck sake! Both at the school and at home, his arm is left completely exposed and untreated for. For that matter, when dealing with a seriously threat of child abuse, how could you possibly think it's a good idea to force the kid to confront that abuser in person? And how is that person not put in custody at least for suspicion of child abuse?

I know this show, especially this season, is unrealistic, ridiculous and over the top, but that shit is fucking insane.

I am convinced Abel is the reincarnation of John Teller taking revenge on the club!
Considering some of the stuff they've done this season, I don't think that's entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Now, maybe I underestimate 5 year olds.. but concocting a plan to frame grandma of child abuse by pushing through the pain of mutilating your own arm seems... a bit... too advanced of a scheme. Maybe it's genetic.

Hey, HIjol and lennier1 (and anyone else interested!):

Have you read Ron Perlman's memoir "Easy Street (the Hard Way)"? I am almost half way through.

Wow...and I thought I liked the man before!

It is a really interesting, thoughtful read. I'd recommend looking it up!

Thanks so much, and sorry for the delay. I am certain in will not be available here in the Middle East, so I will put it on my Christmas list, as I do not prefer electronic books. Sure do appreciate the recommendation. :techman:

He was flat out told that anybody who hurts him would get in trouble with the police. Hardly takes a criminal mastermind to work out the next move.

Well that was quite an episode.

Three regulars down now. Of the three, the only real tragedy was Unser, though the cae can certainly be made that he knew what he was getting into.

Apart from the deal with all the other gangs, and the obvious bloodbath with the rest of the cast that I think we have all been expecting, I'm not sure what else the finale is going to be about!

I will say I thought it was neat to see all the pieces in place for Nero and Wendy to ride off in the sunset together here as a giant misdirect, at least in the sense that she would up getting back together with Jax in the end.

As a side note, I'm glad the show didn't bother hiding from its nature regarding the nudity or graphic depiction of sex in that scene or the brutality of what happened to Juice earlier on. The manufactured outrage from groups like the Parents' Television Council over a show that airs at 10pm on basic cable has gotten to become a bit of a recurring joke of its own, and it's nice to see Sutter and company aren't letting it affect their telling of these last few episodes.

Another welcome surprise was seeing Michael Chiklis as Milo. I'd all but given up on his appearing in some capacity on Sons of Anarchy, but I think with his appearance, that now covers everyone from The Shield making a guest appearance except Catherine Dent and Michael Jace, and (obviously) Glenn Close.

I thought the scene with Jax and Gemma was very Norman and Norma Bates-y in its weird calm, and I especially perked up when he inquired about that last copy of "J.T.'s old manuscript" ... I've been wondering if the show would go back to that little plot device, as it was so integral in the early years of the show to Jax and his motivations. I'm guessing it will play some part in next week's finale, either for Jax or for Abel.

What did you guys think?

The only real tragedy is ending the episode on a godawful musical montage instead of directly after Gemma's death. The whole sequence at her father's house was incredible. Emotionally cold (in a good way), but incredible.

When his character appeared, I thought to myself "Hey, he looks and sounds like Michael Chiklis...too bad it's not really him." I didn't realize it was actually him until I looked at the cast list in regards to another character. I guess the joke is on me.

it's definitely going to be for Abel. for him to understand what his father tried to do and how/ why he failed and eventually died. Max knows the end is near for him. why else try and get Nero, Wendy and the boys far far away.

the only things the finale can be about are Jax sorting out the mess he made for the club around guns and also facing his trial for the killing of another MC president.

Well, tonight's the night!

Last week, news broke that the Sons of Anarchy Collector's Edition book shipped out from some retailers a week early and includes spoilers for the finale tonght. Kurt Sutter took to Twitter to respond:

Kurt Sutter wrote:

FAN APOLOGY

It has been brought to my attention that our SOA Collector's Edition Book has been sent out a week early by some distributors and book outlets. This book contains details about the final episode of the series. This, my friends is a storyteller's worst nightmare. I wanted this book to be a compliment to the show. It contains personal messages and photos from the cast, in-depth behind the scenes information and detailed breakdown of episodes. It's a smart, well-conceived book that I was very excited for the fans to have. AFTER the motherfucking finale. There are a thousand fucking people I can blame. And I assure you, by the time I am done, my fucking basket will be filled with heads of incompetent cunts. But as far as the fans go, the burden is on me. I fucked up. It was my idea for the book, so ultimately, I am to blame. So if you received a book, I apologize. I ask that you not share your wrath or pain or opinion in social media so as to not spoil the experience of others. There is no excuse for utter ineptitude. It pains me that this will be the parting memory of some fans. I hope you all tune in for the finale. It plays much better than it reads.

Sincerely

ks

Regular SOA producing director Paris Barclay (who also filled in to direct the series finale when Sutter got sick and had to have emergency surgery) also weighed in on the situation:

Paris Barclay said:

"A lot of people are going to meet Mr. Mayhem on Tuesday night — a lot of people," he says. "So don't be expecting that everything you heard is the entire story because this is a very complicated finale story and there's going to be a lot of mayhem to be had.

People shouldn't look but you can't stop people from doing what they're going to do. What really pisses me off — to be really frank about it — isn't the people looking, it's the people sharing," he says. "It's okay, if you really need to know before you see the show, you should go find out, but don't put it out there for people who don't really want to know and don't want to see it and don't want to see if on their timelines."

'Sons of Anarchy' finale: What should happen to Jax Teller?

Pre-show prediction? I think the whole club is going to get offed, with Nero and Wendy off on the farm raising the kids. Abel will inherit John Teller's manuscript and grow up; whether he becomes just like J.T., Clay or Jax before him will be the open-ended question the series ends on.

Laughed at the final monologue. "Escaped" from Mr. Mayhem just so he could suicide on the open road... somehow despite that not really making any sense it was also completely what I expected to happen. Actually that's not entirely true, I expected the ol' family curse heart to give out up until he decided to put himself at the #1 spot on the most wanted list, because that at least sort of makes sense. Ya know, let Jack be a cunt one last time and try to scheme his way out of all the horrible stuff he's done, but not being able escape his defective heart. But nope, let's shoot biker thug guy in the arm just so I can just go kill myself in an hour anyway. Sure, why not.

And shit Milo, what you don't slow down when there's a fleet of police vehicles coming at you?!? Driver's Ed bro. That final scene was kind of crap, they had the elements to make it kind of cool, nice little song, cutting to the crow in flight. Then they bust out the really shoddy looking special effects, and the stupid crow bread thing callback to the weird homeless ghost lady scene earlier along with the over the top Jesus stuff. After He takes His hands off the wheel they should have just shown His spirit ascending to Heaven. Thy Sutter's Will Be Done. Amen.

I felt kinda bad for Happy, took a bullet to the arm ffor that;) (altough in the end the dressed wound looks like something from a knitting accident).
Actually I don't think it was for nothing, Jax knew how it would end but he had to make his crew believe that they helped him escape so not to burden them with killing their brother.

^^^ I don't think that was solely to help his crew let him go with a clean conscience. It was to make it look like he put up a struggle to the other chapters that wanted him to meet Mr. Mayhem for unjustly clipping another club president. SAMCRO certainly couldn't bring themselves to actually put a bullet in him, so Happy agreed to take one in the arm, to make it look like Jax fought his way out of Mayhem. Yes, he knew he would buy the farm in the end, as that would be the only way the clubs would stay intact. The problem gets cleaned up and the clubs can go on with a kind of "justice" having been served. He was always about "making things whole again", at least with intent, if not always successful in execution.

So, the homeless woman. Was she the Angel of Death, or a Shade of Jesus or something else entirely? Lots of bread & wine communion-style symbolism and the heavy use of crows (is Sutter a Game of Thrones fan?) All kinds of symbolism in this one, for that matter.

And Abel... with the ring - is he truly fated to follow in his father's footsteps while barely having known him? Probably, especially considering all the stuff that he experienced in the past couple years - knowing Gemma killed Tara, the car crash, all the violence, etc. Can't be sure if he'll remember being kidnapped to Ireland, but some excessively traumatic things could get lodged in his memory and manifest in some unpleasant ways later on down the line.

And yeah, I do wish the final scene VFX looked a bit less...well...VFX.
