The Flash - Season 1

As far as the character's 'real identity' goes, we know it's not Wells, and, based on some comments from Grant, I don't think it's Eddie.

I'm betting it's all a bit of a red herring. Eddie could be the ancestor of Reverse Flash.

As for other comments in the thread about Wally, it would be pretty easy to introduce that Iris has an Aunt and Wally is her cousin. I just really don't think it's important that Iris is Wally's Aunt; just that they're related. And anyway, the tv series has already thrown out 50 years of comic lore by making Iris black; it's not going to damage things further by making Wally her cousin.

^I had the same thought too.
I really enjoyed the episode. Blackout was a cool villain, and even though the superpowered hero loses his powers is a cliched story, I thought they managed to do it really well.
Well, even a cliched idea can be good if there's a meaningful point to it. And there was here, because it illustrated how much Barry cares about helping people, and that's his most appealing quality.
Yeah, this ep reminded me of Smallville 1x12, "Leech", in which (for reasons which make no sense whatsoever even in-universe) Bobby/Iceman accidentally steals Clark's powers, and Clark is just giddy about it - an interesting contrast to Barry's utter dismay. (And yeah, I still say that in its first two-three years, before the writing went to heck, Smallville had a lot of great eps, with outstanding production values.)

And I agree, let the Dr. Caitlin Snow shipping begin! Those eyes!

The first time Clark lost his powers in Lois and Clark, after Kryptonite was discovered by the baddies, the baddie says to her boyfriend "Hey? What do you call Superman with no powers??? ...BATMAN!!!!"

Oh, gods, yes. Clark spent the first seven years of Smallville just wanting to be an ordinary farmboy and resisting the role of hero. It wasn't until the original showrunners left after season seven that Clark finally started wanting to use his powers for the greater good.

Heck, I've been entranced by Danielle Panabaker's eyes since she was in Sky High nine years ago. She was supposed to be the relatively plain best friend, but she was far more stunning than the actress who was supposed to be the gorgeous popular girl.

I remember her from Grimm.

And riiiiight, Barry. You just conveniently "forgot" that carrying Felicity along at superspeed would cause her blouse to catch fire and require her to strip to her underwear. You had no idea that would happen. Suuuure. (P.S., thank you!)

And Wells really doesn't care much for secret-identity etiquette, just blurting out Ollie's name when not only Cisco and Caitlin were there, but Joe as well. Really, though, it's not hard to see how he figured it out. Felicity works with the Arrow and used to work for Oliver Queen, and Oliver and Felicity come to town at the same time that Felicity's in town with the Arrow on a case. Honestly, it's ridiculously easy to figure out. Maybe Ollie should've taken more care not to let his presence in Central City be known.

I would've liked to see more of Oliver training Barry -- hopefully tomorrow. But the battle was pretty effective. I would've preferred it if they'd been at odds over something more substantial than just "Barry got whammied by a rage mutant."

But wow, Grant Gustin's face really changes when he's angry. We've never seen him in that mode before, and he hardly looks like himself.

Speaking of faces, should we be worried that Felicity's facial-recognition software can recognize Barry with his mask on? If that kind of software became widespread, it would render masks pretty useless, except for full-face masks.

And speaking of masks, I'm glad that the show is letting Barry keep the mask on in so many scenes. In the first couple of episodes, they were doing the usual live-action thing of getting the hero's mask off at every opportunity, but since then, they've actually let him look like the Flash for a large part of each episode. And that's really cool.

But I'm not liking this police task force angle. I wish the Flash would just go public and be the open, well-liked hero he is in the comics. They don't need to recap Arrow with the police hunting the vigilante.

Really fun episode. Maybe the best of the series so far. It was lots of fun. I don't know if Dig even had to be there, but he did get all the best lines.

Wells probably knew anyway and was simply keeping his cards to his chest. He always seems to have an angle. I think the (lack of) secret-identity etiquette was just another angle. The guy's a real manipulative bastard.

I like the character less and less each week, which is too bad because I've been a fan of Cavanagh's for a while.

Agreed 100%.

And the bit at the end with Iris came strait out of the Clana saga. I didn't like that either.

I can see the task force failing to catch the Flash being the first step in creating Reverse Flash. The embarrassment of not catching him causes Eddie to leave the force and descend into bitterness which he passes on as hatred to his offspring and so on into the future.
I enjoyed the battle as well, Flash using the multiple super speed punching technique is always good.
Diggle was great in this one.
Kudos to the effects team for turning out such great work on a weekly basis.
Now bring on Captain Boomerang!

Did the resolution seem pretty abrupt to anyone else?
My sister through for a second we missed a scene when they locked up the baddie. I know, storywise, it wasn't necessary to the story they wanted to tell (Arrow vs Flash), but it still felt pretty abrupt.

By the way, what was that random scene with Oliver running into that woman from his past at the coffee shop? I can't remember if we've seen her before. Was that the girl that Oliver got pregnant and Moira paid off to say she'd lost the baby? That's all I can deduce, but I don't remember details or faces well enough to be sure. And I don't get why it'd be in a Flash episode rather than an Arrow episode.

The woman is a native of Central City. When Moira paid her off, the provision was for her to "return" to CC.
I don't know if it was the same actress playing to role or not. Guess we'll find out as soon as the guest cast is listed.

Edit-same actress, Anna Hopkins. IMDB has her listed playing "Sandra" in season 2 of Arrow and tonight's Flash. The Arrow episode BTW, was "Seeing Red", ep 20.
