The Flash - Season 1

I would like to point out I disagree with the "Draw result" stated in the episode. Oliver won and for now that makes sense with him being the more experienced fighter. However 5 years from now that would be a different story ;)

Well, not to get into this quagmire, but I wouldn't say he "won" -- he just happened to have the upper hand at the moment that the support team arrived with the cure for Barry's condition. If they hadn't shown up just then, Barry would probably have vibrated free or something. So if it's a win, it's a win by running out the clock. Or whatever. I'm not good with sports metaphors.

Oh, speaking of life partners, I liked the casual way in which Captain Singh mentioned his boyfriend. I don't recall if we've had a gay male recurring character in this universe yet -- the only LGBT characters I can think of are Sarah and Nyssa.

I like that they did that, but it seemed a little awkward.

"Hey, we have this criminal with superpowers we need to set up a task force to deal with!"
"I like to eat junk food when my boyfriend isn't watching."
"Uhh... nobody said anything, but okay... so about that taskforce?"

Hey, we've gotten so little characterization for Captain Singh that I'll take whatever moments they can work in.

I am sure Oliver is gonna have some "ice" arrows just incase Barry gets wonky again. I may need to re-watch but I thought they mentioned cold being a weakness for Barry in the presence of the Arrow gang?

Finished the episode. So now Barry's the hero Central deserves, but not that hero it needs, or some crap like that?

The "cold gun" immediately lowers tempreatures to absolute zero by stopping atomic reactions (I think?).

"Captain Cold" was played by Wentworth Miller from Prison Break, who escaped his first episode ALIVE without losing the tech.

(Recently captain Cold in the comics explained that although he didn't invent his cold gun, since his lively hood depended on having a cold gun, that he had had to become an expert at taking it apart, fixing it, and putting it back together again, until now all he needs is 1/2 an hour and a well stocked appliance store to make a new/replacement cold gun, if he's ever in a situation where he finds himself unarmed.)

It was invented by CISCO when they were still trying to figure out if Barry was trustworthy.

I have come to a conclusion that Sisco's friends are all arseholes for not taking care of him.

Point is that Caitlin & Barry must have female friends they could introduce to the young scientist and what the hell does it mean when/if Wells gives Sisco a phone number to ring which will "iron out his wrinkles".

...

If they put a beautiful female metahuman in a cell under Star Labs, Sisco is going to fall in love with her, and let her go.

I really loved the Flash episode of the crossover! What fun! Especially their fight of course. In comparison, the Arrow half was very droll and uninteresting. You go from an evil Flash as a villain to... Captain Boomerang?

Wow, I thought the Arrow half was even better, due to the more intense and fun character dynamics. It was one thing to see the relatively new Team Flash getting a little guidance from the established Team Arrow, but it was even more fun seeing the grim, driven Team Arrow get shaken up by the new guys. I loved seeing Barry serving as counsel to Oliver and helping inspire him back toward the light, and I loved Barry's solution to the bomb problem.

No comment on Barry's new abilities?

Too bad he didn't have that poison extraction trick back in the episode with the poison gas guy, hm?

When he broke the lock by vibrating it, that reminded me of what Quicksilver did in X-Men.

The mid-season finale trailer is up:

I don't recall seeing a recent TV series use the interior of BC Place like that, at least not since the recent major renovations.

(Ironically, since I'm more interested in MLS than the CFL, I'm not used to seeing the interior being laid out in its Canadian football configuration...)

But surely that was the point, no? Oliver knows Barry has a bigger edge with his abilities, so he knows he has to rely on strategy, like he said in the Arrow episode. Oliver's strategy was not fighting to win, it was fighting to distract, so Joe and Wells could drive the van up to Barry without him catching on until it was too late. By that definition, Oliver won.

Really enjoyed these two crossover episodes, though. Worked on pretty much every level, and was a lot of fun to watch. Oliver and Barry play off each other really well. Loved the humour between them, and the conflicting styles they both have was handled perfectly too. Definitely want to see more crossovers like this in the future.

The Firestorm tease was just the icing on the cake, and the title of next week's episode (coupled with the spoiler pic up-thread) has me more excited than a 35 year old man has any right to be. Between Firestorm, Zoom/Reverse Flash, Grodd, the formation of the Rogues, and wondering what the hell the deal with Wells is, this show has literally become must-watch TV for me.

Fair to say that I'm really enjoying this show.

ETA: Freakin sweet trailer.

So were there any major teases or revelations with regard to the Flash characters in that episode of Arrow? I'm trying to hold off watching it until I get caught up with the rest of Arrow, and am hoping I didn't miss out on anything big that might carry over to later eps of Flash....

^ Somehow I doubt that a show like The Flash is going to ascribe to the same time travel mechanics as the Back to the Future films, which had some of the most honestly wonky rules about time travel that I've ever seen (that's not to say that the films are bad, because they're not).

BTTF was nowhere near the first or only work of fiction to show a time traveler meeting his or her past self. That trope was old before Robert Zemeckis was even born. Robert A. Heinlein used it repeatedly, notably in 1941's "By His Bootstraps" and 1959's "--All You Zombies--". And so have plenty of other authors since.

Barry can't have Felicity & Iris!?!? Go for Iris! :adore:

Why? Okay, she's marginally hotter, but nowhere near as smart, funny, thoughtful, supportive, and resourceful. If you want someone to put up on a pedestal and stare at, then Iris would work. But if you want a life partner who'll enrich your existence, then Felicity's by far the better prospect. (Assuming, of course, that either lady is interested. But there again, Felicity comes out ahead, because she's already interested in Barry. If Iris hasn't thought about him as a romantic prospect in all this time, why expect that to change?)

Oh, speaking of life partners, I liked the casual way in which Captain Singh mentioned his boyfriend. I don't recall if we've had a gay male recurring character in this universe yet -- the only LGBT characters I can think of are Sarah and Nyssa.
Well, in current DC continuity, Singh's boyfriend is Pied Piper.
