MLB Offseason 2014-15: Wait, pitchers and catchers report WHEN?

^ Well, another much needed middle infielder.

In reality, he projects as a utility guy, but the deal doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Braves trade Tommy La Stella to the cubs to get Arodys Vizcaino back, who was once traded for Paul Maholm and Reed Johnson.

His patient approach and good eye at the plate just didn't fit with the Braves offense. They don't have time for that nonsense when there are bombs to hit.

OK, W.... T.... F....

precursor to them doing something else.

and I LOVE seeing that chart with the Cubs towards the bottom when it comes to payroll - no more garbage contracts on the books.

Welcome to the last page. ;)

I imagine La Stella will compete for the starting 2B job in spring training, because I don't know why you would trade for him and not give him a shot to start; as a bench player he's a utility guy who can't really play anywhere.

Braves have given up on this team until 2017. So will I. The management cares nothing about their fanbase.

Russell Martin to Toronto, 5 / 82.

Um.

What.

So much for the Cubs being the "most likely" to sign him. Though a 31 year old catcher is probably a pretty big risk.

Especially when he's a 31-year-old catcher with a history of knee and back injuries, who just so happened to have a banner year (out-performing all of his career norms) at the same time as he hit free agency.

Toronto can have him.

They just want to be as white as possible for when they move to Cobb County.

Come on man, that's a silly statement. I assume you are making a joke.

Yeah, Cobb County is actually fairly racially balanced, from what I hear. It's rather rich, but not lillywhite or anything like that.

I mean, it still sucks that they're abandoning Turner Field so soon (even though Georgia State's taking it) but it's no racial thing.

Justin will go shortly I imagine. No way they pay to keep him. At least Miller is wrapped up until 2018. Heyward was my favorite player though so it kind of hurts. It looks like the Braves are just going to tread water until they can unload the Uggla/B.J. contracts. Oh man, If B.J. is playing CF between Gattis and Justin he better be prepared to cover 80% of the outfield.

They can't really "unload" the Uggla contract, since it's just guaranteed money they have to pay him, not like he's a tradeable player or anything. They just have to wait it out until after next year.

And, yes, a Gattis / Upton / Upton outfield has the potential to be one of the all-time worst in history. I hope it happens, because it will be hilarious.

By unload Uggla I simply mean they will make the final payment. He actually has two more years.

The Mariners are suiters for Justin Upton apparently. They can have him as long as they take his brother. It looks like the Braves are going to attempt to rebuild for 2017 or 2018.

There's word that Stanton's negotiations with the Marlins have hit the 13 / 320 mark. (With a no-trade and an opt-out.)

Um.

What.

Congratulations to Trout on his eventual 10 / 450 contract, I guess.

$25 million a year. What happens when the Marlins owner freaks out after a bad season and trims payroll to $30 million?

Sounds about right. $25M for Stanton & $5M for the other 24 guys.

Half the time the Marlins are a minor league team anyway.
