Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

Entirely female? One origin has her getting powers from Heracles and Hermes. So there have been male influences in her beginnings. And being with Steve Trevor is an important factor in why she goes to Man's World.

Who exactly said anything of "entirely female"? The difference is, the men added to her later on. The initial spark of life was granted by Aphrodite.

And you're trying to distract from the matter at hand. They changed her origin, and not just in a minor detail, but the very nature of it.

Gov. Karnstein, that's who.
I agree with Kai. The point of Wonder Woman's origin is that she is a product entirely of female origin in order to show that the feminine can produce strength and power just as well as the male world.

Alright, yes. That's factually wrong. But it also brings us back to the main problem. Originally, her powers came from male and female gods alike. Now, they only come from the one male god.

Gov. Karnstein, that's who.

But how she uses those powers comes from how she was raised by the Amazons.

Marston's origin had only Aphrodite giving her life and her powers were from Amazon training. The male gods came after him, as I recall, when Kaniger rebooted the character, though that could be misremembering on my part.

In her first appearance (All-Star 8) she's a regular Amazon and beats the others in a contest to be "Wonder Woman". Not very fair if she's blessed by the Gods.

So what does this goal post shift have to do with her origins in coming from a female background originally?

Just something I noticed when re-reading her origins. A sidebar regarding her origins, not a goal post shift.

Okay, you know what, I'll make it very, very simple to you:

I'm sorry, it's very hard to hear you over the condescension...

Imagine DC decided that their official Superman didn't come from another planet, after all. Imagine DC telling us that Batman's parents did not die at all. Now, if you can imagine the outrage over that, add to it a gender-political level, and you may begin to understand.

*sigh*

I'm not an idiot. I understand your... "outrage," I don't AGREE with it.

Though, to address your points...

If Superman wasn't from Krypton, I don't think I would be all that outraged. (Actually, to be honest, I don't know if there is anything that would get me outraged. They're just comics.

I would argue, like Diana, Superman being from Krypton doesn't really motivate him. It does provide him a reason why he has powers, but, it doesn't motivate him. His Earth parents are the ones the instilled him with his moral code and ethics. Other than an otherness--which really doesn't get address in the comics often, his origins, like Diana, aren't that important to the character.

Bruce's origins on the other hand, the death of his parents, motivate his actions to dress up like a Bat. But, then, the Batman of Earth 2, Thomas Wayne, took up the mantel after his son died. So, perhaps there are other ways to motivate it.

Perhaps if you had said, would I be outraged if instead of a lightning bolt striking Barry Allen giving him the powers of the Flash, that he, I don't know.... inhaled fumes from... I don't know... hard water and that some how got him the powers of the Flash.

Oh, then I would be outraged.

The contest, its outcome, is irrelevant. Hippolyta forbade Diana to enter as she didn't want her daughter to leave Paradise Island forever. The point of it for Diana is defying her mother, not winning which was a foregone conclusion. Diana had always been faster and stronger than any other Amazon. Hippolyta was certain Diana would win if she entered. Diana has to go from childhood obedience to adult independence. The contest is simply a setting for that transition and is otherwise irrelevant.

My point is its unfair and its not a serious point.

:guffaw:

I'm not familiar with the New 52 firsthand, so I can't comment on how the Zeus angle has been handled. But during Perez's run after he rebooted her, when Heracles first met Diana, he asked Hippolyta if he was the father, having raped Hippolyta in ancient times. My thought at the time was that it would have been a much more interesting origin than the clay baby thing. There's poetic justice in the notion that the daughter of the demigod who led the rape of the amazons would use the power inherited from her father to become the amazon champion in man's world.

There was a point after Wonder Woman #200, where she fell for an African American Steve Trevor, that Themyscira was recognized by he UN and she worked out of an Embassy spreading "peace and female empowerment".

As a Diplomat, she could ignore US law, until the US declared war on Paradise Island.

(They all had diplomat status in the JLI days... Do diplomats have to pay taxes? Because Boster Gold was got good for tax evasion at one point.)

IIRC, in the Perez origin Diana's soul was the last one in the "Well of Souls" because Cave Woman Hippolyte was pregnant when she died. So that version of WW had a father.

If I had to guess, I'd say that in the upcoming movie there won't be time for a WW origin story (and Aquaman and whoever else they shoehorn into it).

That story won't be told until there's a WW standalone movie. Who knows, the writers might create a brand new origin. But until then, all the debate is moot.

IMO, YMMV, whatever. ;)

That's a round about way of ignoring Perez kept the primary focus on the feminine for her origin and upbringing. Go patriarchy! Those women really can't produce anything uniquely their own.

Nah just tossing in some WW trivia.

That was just her soul.

Which was stuck in Hippolyta's craw for a few thousand years before she worked it out.

If you believe in what stoned Hippies try to tell you, souls are just floating about and then jump into empty babies randomly.

Or are you suggesting that souls are created by human sexuality?

I don't believe in souls.
