Lost DVD Replacement

Mister Spock

Commander

Hello all,

Somehow I've lost disc five of my Star Trek: Season One Remastered boxset. Are there any places online that offer replacement services? I should mention I'm in the UK.

You could always reach out to CBS Home Video. They might send you a replacement disc, although it's unlikely, given that you the disc was lost by you rather than missing due to a manufacturing error.

I'd second the Ebay advice. I have seen boxsets of discs only (no boxes or cases)on there from time to time so it may just be a case of playing the long game.

This doesn't help you any, but I bought the remastered set of The Next Generation movies. My set came with 2 First Contact and no Generations movie. I ended up buying the single missing one on Amazon. I probably could have returned my set to Amazon or maybe they would have supplied me with the Generations movie, but I didn't play the remastered set for many many weeks and thus didn't notice the error.

Option 1
Might be easier just repurchasing the Star Trek Season 1 Remastered set (Amazon has them new and used), then try selling one of the sets minus disk 5 to make back most of your money. I mean a used copy is starting out at 15 pounds UK

Option 2
Failing that, then ebay or contacting CBS for a replacement disk might be your next best bet.

Option 3
If none of that worked, and not that I would advocate it, but if you could acquire a disk 5 somehow(netflix, a friend, library, etc), you could rip it ( you can Google a plethora of free DVD ripping software).

I mean if you legitimately bought the set and simply lost disk5, and ripped another legitimately purchased disk 5 just to replace it, and that is all you did, I wouldn't consider that piracy. I think the spirit of the anti-piracy laws is more to prevent people from copying stuff they don't already have and selling it for profit, not to prevent people who legitimately purchased a set but lost a disk from replacing it via software backup, really. But I am no lawyer, either.

Personally, I would go with option 1, though.

Well I believe from the 01-06-14 it is legal in the UK to copy media that you own for your own personal use.

So from a legal point of view, it looks like it would technically be illegal to use somebody elses disc 5 and copy that for yourself, as it's not your original disc that is being copied for your use.

Sometimes, when justice it outlawed... the just must become outlaws.

Back in the day when I was a kid,I used to write companies all the time and usually got results (I would loose the guns to my Star Wars action figures, and Kenner ALWAYS came through). So, yes, I would try to contact CBS. Although I'm older and more cynical now and coorporations are less caring and faceless entities now, I have little hope they might help, but who knows? They might charge you for the disc (or at least for shipping, handling and processesing), but it would still be cheaper than rebuying the whole set.

You had a REALLY good look for it? If you have decommissioned any old players recently they are a good place to look, also you could have shoved it in another set?

I bought all TOS on bluray for just over $100.
You can but Season 1 for $25 on bluray today.
I mean I'd just fork out the $25 rather than fussing around. Even though its annoying.
