Zack Snyder will direct SUPERMAN

I doubt they will even consider Tom Welling, even though the timing would be perfect.

:cardie:

I think they actually want to make a Superman movie, not a string of Top 40 angst-ridden music videos in between Yaris and Stride commercials on the same exterior lot over and over again with bad guys that are defeated by one punch.

Woah.. Snyder, Goyer and Nolan?

This one better be knocked out the park and way into the solar system!

Although i'm not a big fan of re-using existing villains (we got Luthor 4 of 5 Superman movies) when Superman has such a broad villain list (why not use someone who's his match like Darkseid or even Doomsday?) but i got faith in Nolan and Goyer.

Snyder is a good visual director and i liked both Watchmen and 300 for what they were trying to accomplish so i'm positive. Now the task is to find that one actor who can become Superman.. you can write the best script in the world but if the guy can't convince you it's all for nothing.

I don't think Tom Welling would ever get cast in a Snyder-Nolan-Goyer Superman movie...but I couldn't help be excited if he did. :p

Oh, gawd. NO. No Welling. No, no, no. Nothing from Smallville. Ever.

I threw up a little in my mouth when I heard Snyder use that dreaded word..."modern."

MODERN? Why should Superman be MODERN? Great, that's all we need, turning him into a whiny existentialist emo prick. Superman is Superman; he does not, and should not, change. He should always be the idealist Boy Scout we grew up with. He should always be a true hero.

Initially I was rooting for Duncan Jones, but I'm actually happy that he didn't get the gig simply because I want to see more of his original work before he tackles on the creative strangleholds that are comic book franchises.

Snyder can direct a movie straight forward (see Dawn of the Dead), so there's no reason to worry about it being overstylized or hyperrealistic.

I'm curious about the casting process now. It should be fascinating to follow it. My pick is Matthew Bomer. This also means I suppose that Duncan Jones will be able follow up "Source Code" with "Mute".

With Nolan and company shepherding this, I'm ok with Snyder. He certainly will bring a unique visual style to things that I think will fit well with Supes.

I just hope they cast the lead right. They need someone with actual upper body strength and bulk.

I've been thinking Jon Hamm is too old, but if they use CGI to kill his crows feet and such, maybe...

Just finally cast a Superman with some bulk to him. Chris Reeve was good because he was moderate, but leaned large. Routh was too small in stature. Welling echoes Reeve. Hamm would have the body size for it.

Exciting tidbit of information from the Heat Vision article:

Goyer is writing the script, which is rumored to have, like “Superman Returns,” a Richard Donner Superman connection. In the movie’s case, it’s a villain connection: General Zod.
And I was hoping Goyer could resist this Zod-damned urge to repeat the past.

Routh isn't likely to don the red and blue tights again, Snyder said.

I am not surprised.
It wasn't so long ago that Snyder ruled himself out as director of a new Superman.

In fact it was two weeks ago that he commented on the short list. He obviously reconsidered and probably did so after reading the script or was pitched the story by Nolan. It amuses me that knee jerk fan reaction to stories (I include myself big time in this) we have no idea how Zod will be used and yet there are already some who dislike the idea of him being used. No one had this reaction when Nolan announced that Joker and Two-Face would be used as villains in "Dark Knight" that I remember and that movie turned out okay and Batman has a plethora of rouges that can be used. Nolan happened to find those two characters interesting. I suspect that the Nolan brothers and Goyer find Zod an interesting character. I wouldn't be surprised if Geoff Johns had something to do with his use in the film either.

I love the levels of projection in this post.

1st movies: a. Luthor b. Zod

2nd movies: a. Luthor b. Zod

Does this mean the next flick is going to be about a nefarious giant computer built by Chris Rock?

How does modern = emo? To make a Superman movie seriously now, they have to update some things. For example, the idea of him working at a newspaper office to keep up to date on crimes is ludicrous now, because web based services have supplanted newspapers.

Clark not working for a newspaper called The Daily Planet = NO BUYS

I'm not suggesting they get rid of the Planet, I'm just suggesting they update it to modern media.

Or do a Watchmen and make the movie a period piece.
