Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2'

Re: Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2

They always include romance in films, even when it's a book adaptation, and in the book there is no romance to speak of. Such is the case with The Lord of the Rings.

I think they're not gonna break Spock and Uhura up, but it's probably going to get a little wangsty.

Spock said he's also human and from his conversation with Spock Prime has seen it's not a curse. It would be cool to see Spock and Uhura marry at some point in the films. That's something we've never seen from TOS characters: a successful, happy, lasting marriage.

am not sure about spock and uhura getting maried,I think it will be best to live that to fanfiction writers. However I disagree with no lasting marriage.

Deanna Troi and Wiliam Riker had one and so did O'Brien and Keiko.

Why not? If Riker and Troi can get married, why not Spock and Uhura? We don't know that Riker and Troi had a lasting marriage since they only got married in the last movie. . . books are not canon. . . What we do know is that they had a LOOOOOONG courtship. . .

O'Brien was totally pussy whipped by that woman. Couldn't stand that relationship.

^Exactly. Lasting? Definitely. Successful? Maybe.

Happy? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

The real question is what is Kirk going to do?

Sleep arond or get a gf?

A bf. Star Trek always lacked a gay character. Why not Kirk? That would be the best option. Simply turn his love interest into a guy, and done.

If it's not Spock, there will be a fan uprising. Some traditions are sacred.
I'm surprised none of you are suggesting the classic Spirk pairing.
Already been done.

Done so many times... and that's just Temis.

I'll admit it, I'm responsible for 32.8% of the K/S slash fanfic but that's because everyone else has been slacking.

However, I'm willing to be flexible. Spock/McCoy anyone?

Re: Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2

Okay if we have to be all serious and actually talk about the topic, this is correct:

Back to the original point, I think the Spock and Uhura romance is destined to run into problems, but it is highly unlikely that the romance will far completely apart. Spock may be "conflicted" but I don't think that love is something a Vulcan is conflicted about. They either do or they don't.

Romance is an essential part of a movie, because it helps to draw the audience in. It helps us like or dislike a character. You have to admit, the three were more likeable and cheered on when they had a romantic interest. Sadly, towards the end of the TOS movies, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy became rather stodgy, old men.

No sense even introducing Spuhura (or whatever the approved term is :rommie:) if you're not going to do anything with it, and Quinto's speculation about Spock's emotional turmoil being used to extend the romance plot seems like a plausible way to take it. Spuhura may be doomed, doomed I say! But probably not till the end of the third movie, which could very well be the last one. Maybe they don't live happily ever after, but if they're still friends and colleagues, that's a nice ending too.

Re: Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2

Friends and colleagues would seem most logical. And the most grown up thing. Honestly, I would think being in a realtionship with someone who's culture is all about not showing emotion and you come from a culture that does emote, things won't be easy. But at the same time, I think part of the reason for giving Spock a gf is to explore the human side more especially now that Vulcan is gone. No more sticking solely to the Vulcan way.

I can't see any other way (if these movies truly take off like the TOS ones did; at the rate they're writing/filming this one, I wonder if someone'll even get to steal and post the XII script!) other than for Spock and Uhura to give it a trial separation. Dramatically, that's the only way for them to maintain the UST (sexual tension, unresolved or not) and have interesting dialogue/glances etc between them. I don't want ongoing mushy romance between them in these movies. Blechh! :vulcan:
