They always include romance in films, even when it's a book adaptation, and in the book there is no romance to speak of. Such is the case with The Lord of the Rings.

) if you're not going to do anything with it, and Quinto's speculation about Spock's emotional turmoil being used to extend the romance plot seems like a plausible way to take it. Spuhura may be doomed, doomed I say! But probably not till the end of the third movie, which could very well be the last one. Maybe they don't live happily ever after, but if they're still friends and colleagues, that's a nice ending too.
