Your short list for The 11th Doctor

both sadly, too well known.

TOO WELL KNOWN FOR THE DOCTOR? SURELY YOU JEST?!?!?

I'm glad someone else understands.

I find it funny how people always come up with big names for the role (as if they'd do it), do we really want someone in the role where you'll end up thinking bloody hell it's thingy from that other show, or someone who'll end up with more expectations than pulling off that "Doctor-ness". I'd rather have someone rather low profile who can bring some surprise to the role.

BTW I just noticed your sig, I love that song. :techman:

Then again, no one would have thought Christopher Eccleston would have been cast in 2004.

Interesting that all the favourites this time seem to fall into the light entertainment/celeb catagory rather than being serious thesps. I just feel the series needs to avoid going down that route. The JNT route as it were. That means no Paterson Joseph or Alan bloody Davies.

I'd like either an unknown, or a totally unexpected choice. Someone like John Michie - that's Robbie off Taggart to you grizzled Glasgae mud-er fans. Fuck middle-England. I've had enough of the chipper boy Tennant. I want the Doctor to be pissed off and morose, sulking around the Tardis moaning about the weather.

If you wanted to balance it out, you could cast someone annoyingly cheery and beautiful as the companion. Hell, just get all of Girls Aloud along - the last pop star didn't turn out badly.

I would definitely, certainly watch that.

Actually John Michie could work. He's definitely serious, but can deliver a comic line. Hmmm.

My bat's-arse suggestion is... Pierce Brosnan. Make him not such a pretty boy, he can do serious and comedy, and knows when to scale back on being too actiony.

I actually had the same thought, but dismissed it about 0.012 seconds later. For a start I doubt he'd do the tough schedule on BBC money, and secondly he's just too well known as Bond. It would be Pierce Brosnan playing Doctor Who rather than just Doctor Who.

A mock-up by a friend of mine...

I think everyone and their kid sister knows by now I've been wanting Eddie Izzard as The Doctor since word first came out Doctor Who was returning. :D

I would also love to see Bill Nighy's take on The Doctor, but I know that'll probably never happen.

I think Hugh Grant would be grand, too, as exemplified by The Curse of the Fatal Death. It's too bad he turned the role before Christopher Eccleston was offered the role, but at least he regrets that decision now.

Lastly, I think Alexander Siddig would be a marvelous Doctor (although I bet he would be a smashing Master, too).

Some excellent suggestions there. :bolian:

I'll be happy with whomever, as long as that person has TONS of personality.

By the way, if you could get him for a season... Johnny Depp is my choice.

why is it bookies & the media are so dumb when it comes to what makes someone the 11th Doctor, the preview pretty much rules out Morrissey as the next Doctor, and coming up with a list of actors who have already been in Who, is not going to help either.

isnt Doctor one of those words which is always a captail like a name?

Nope. "Doctor" is capitalized when it's used as a specific person's title, if it's at the beginning of a sentence, if it's part of a title of a work of art, or, as with this show, it's someone's only name. ;)
