6th Day had some intriguing thoughts behind continuity errors or stuff that was never followed up in Enterprise. I thought it might be fun for us to have "the off-screen" thread or "our opinions" behind errors/stuff not followed up on.

I think I have a few myself, although I try to keep them to myself.

* What's the deal with Trip's discussion about STC, but then his claim he never graduated from it?

Trip is one of those wunderkinds who didn't need to graduate STC to be the guy who knew how to fix everything.

* Why in the wide world of sports did T'Pol do drugs?
She was really trying to boost her resistance to trellium so that Enterprise could add that to their hull and thus travel more safely in the Expanse.

* Why did Trip sound like he was from Texas, and not Florida?
His family grew up in Texas.

* Why did T'Pol not dress like other Vulcans?
She's the Vulcan equivalent of a hipster.

* Why did no one remember from E2 that Trip and T'Pol had a baby?
Because it was an AU, they forgot, just like in Twilight. Although, Archer and T'Pol occasionally remember events from that and believe it to be a dream.

* What's the deal with Lorian? He's got some issues.
He's like Archer in that respect -- lost his father before his time. I can imagine Archer, after Trip perished, helped raise Lorian. I can imagine they have some issues around that.

She didn't want the object of her infatuation -- Reed -- to feel threatened (literally).

He's a masochist.

**Why did Trip rescue Princess PainInTheAss?**
He was hoping there'd be a reward. And sadly, it would appear there was.

**Why didn't Archer listen to Trip when he questioned Dr. Deadalus' actions and intentions despite the obvious fact that the guy got one of his crewmen killed?**
He had the hots for Daughter Deadalus and didn't want to ruin his chances.

Actually, Trip sounds like he's from Missouri/ Arkansas. Probably more on the Missouri side (Missourah). I live in Texas---Trip does NOT have a Texas accent. Texan is a combination of *lilt* and *twang* (see King of the Hill) while what Trip has is a definite drawl, that is slightly tempered.

What's more mind-boggling is why Hoshi--resident linguistics expert--never mentioned this or asked him about it.

Sorry I don't mean to argue with you but I would say that picard's accent is not british, or english at all. I'll agree that he does have an accent and note that is was born in England but his accent does not match up with the traditional British/English accent.

There's more than one English accent. Cockney is like the chimney-sweeps from 'Mary Poppins' while the refined accent Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) uses is totally different from the accents of both Melanie B and Melanie C (Scary/Sporty).

Who's to say she didn't? its not like we see these characters every second of their lives. if its not a relevant story point it usually won't be mentioned.

Depends on where. Trip doesn't sound like a St. Louis-an ... but Archer does. Trip doesn't sound like West Texas or East Texas, but he sounds very much like Dallas which is where I grew up. The accent is faint and slightly lazy without being overt (like West Texas accent King of the Hill). I was born in Missouri (and have most of my relatives from there), lived in Florida and Texas.

He could be from Oklahoma or Southern Missourah. (I say Missourah, too. Maybe because my parents who grew up there do.)

Probably the same reason we have a French captain who speaks with a British accent.

It would've been good for establishing character, though. It'd show Sato actualy had an impressive command of the linguistics skills that otherwise amounted to ``she knows how to press the `on' button on her computer'', and it would've simultaneously fleshed out Tucker's backstory.

I think we had a few Hoshi is a genius linguist moments in the show. Her abilities were well established. She picked up several alien languages in just two days and two nights. No UT involved. As for "fleshing out" Trip's character, I don't see over complicating his backstory as a positive. I've never been able to place Trip's accent myself and my family is from Tennessee and I spent part of my childhood in Texas. It was a generic southern accent to my ears. He was from Panama City in Northwest Florida. What do they sound like there?

Picard's accent is certainly a British one. And an English one. There isn't just one of either, there's a number of varieties. But Stewart's accent, like Meaney's but unlike Doohan's, is quite genuine.

Maybe Sato didn't ask because she didn't really care? Trip's family could have emigrated to Florida. Or maybe there's been an accent shift and Floridian accents have been replaced by Missourian in the future, like the preponderance of British accents in France. Or whatever.

enterprise takes place in the future after the distarous wars of the 2050's.
who knows how much of the population was displaced and were.
but then again even now florida is a destination state and accents like trip have been common there for a long time.

frankly i puzzles me that people dont see the divergence of accents within just one southern town depending on back ground not just for yourself but your parents, grand parents.
and not even that which part of the city you were raised in.

It never really bothered me his accent.

Connor himself said he based this accent around his grandparents/family in Missouri. It was only later that he found out from B&B that Trip was supposed to be from Florida.

I think Archer secretly liked and respected T'Pol from day one...when they first met at Starfleet HQ to check out Klaang. T'Pol looked him in the eye and told him what-for even if he acted like she didn't. And she gave him a sarcastic "whatever" look when he told her he was going to knock her on her ass. Deep down, Archer respected that and when she was assigned by the High Command to Enterprise to accompany the ship to Qo'noS her professionalism secretly pleased him, even if he gave her a lot of crap and a hard time.
