It is a violation of copyright law, so I haven't downloaded any of the episodes.

But, they have Paramount's permission and are not making any profit from it?
First off, I wasn't aware they had Paramount's permission. Second, even if they don't make a profit, Paramount can still loose money. After all, why go see the new prequel movie when you can download the new episode of New Voyages? 
Absolutely love New Voyages - the recent Chekov-centred one penned by D.C Fontana would sit nicely mid-Season 2 of TOS.
Outstanding stuff, and it makes me cry that in the past 15 years the professional paramount productions were rarely this good.

I like New Voyages, it's so bad that it's good, James Cawley does a very amusing impersonation of Shatner. In Harms Way was their best episode imo the last one with Walter Koenig in it was pretty average, I prefer the all round bad acting of the first few episodes.

I agree. I cannot in all honesty find a season's worth of good episodes from the Modern Trek episodes produced in the last 15 years. Trek should have been a well-oiled machine by then, but it languished all that time in mediocrity. At least with "New Voyages" they are actually taking risks. Risks that have not been taken for a very long time.

Even though I know they have Trek writers and actors on board, which completely amazes me... most amazing fan made project I've ever heard of... I just can't get into it. I've watched bits and pieces but just can't sit through even one in it's entirety.
I am very interested in the Trek fan films, and really like the idea of fan-made productions of all kinds. Exeter is really the Cadillac of fan films, although they have really stumbled in meeting the production schedule they set for themselves.
NV has been hit or miss for me. I really liked "In Harm's Way" despite the way it became muddled at the end. A clever way to re-use the Guardian, and incorporate none other than Barbara Luna and William Windom into the show. They did a great job of recreating Pike's Enterprise as well. Also, they have definitely improved NV with time. The acting gets better each time, and given that they are amateurs they do a fine job. The effects in "To Serve All My Days" were very well done and felt more consistent with TOS than those seen in the first two NV episodes. It was also good to see Walter as Chekov again, even if the story, and the much discussed ending, were a confusing letdown.
I am looking forward to the next NV show (and the rest of Exeter's second show, and the next episode of Starship Farragut...)

Ive only watched a few, in harms way has been one of the best ive seen.
I love the fact that, like Starship Exeter, they are doing this out of love for TOS. Built their own sets and got hold of original actors which still amazes me.
I much prefer Exeter, but New Voyages are still good, better than latter Trek by a light year or two.

The first two episodes were crap, with Roadrunner-cartoon-style effects, bad acting, and everything-including-the-kitchen-sink plots. Time travel, Borg, planet killers, Q, name-dropping, alluding to future events, Movie Kirk meets Series kirk 
STOOOOP!!!!!!
But the Chekov episode was very good, thanks to Dorothy's script, and a notable toning-down of the silly-assed movement in the effects shots.
And I'm impressed that they get such cool guest stars. I just wish the GOOD shows (Exeter and Hidden Frontier) could get them.

I've only seen the first two. Once the initial shock of the horrific acting wore off, it wasn't bad.
I liked bits of the special effects, until they had the Enterprise start whipping around like the helmsman was Bo Duke.
I've got the script ffor the second one at home somewhere. It reads much nicer than the produced version, again due to the acting.

Anyway, like most of the fan films "New Voyages" continues to improve as they gain experience. I like their shows quite a lot.
If I didn't like them I wouldn't be moderating the Fan Films forum. All of them fall short in one area or another relative to actual TV episodes. But they aren't TV episodes and so I enjoy them for what they're worth and respect the hard work that goes into making them.
While I thought that the first two episodes (the Pilot and Episode 1) had their faults, I was willing to forgive them and enjoy their efforts. That being said, I really enjoy NV and its look especially their recent effort.
