"I" bought Hubby a watercolor from an artist he's liked--for his upcoming birthday.
Hubby bought me a watch and tennis bracelet from a local department store that's going out of business. 70% off. Hubby can't easily walk away from a sale. I'm the one who asks whether or not we need it.
Did I need a diamond bracelet (not a HUGE one, but a classic one)? No. But he wanted to buy it for me, partly as a graduation present. We can afford an occasional splurge. And Mom says, "Never say 'no' to your husband."
Of course, she means when 'your husband' is not some raving lunatic, drunk, doper, etc. Hubby is none of these.

Hmm, losing 3 out of 5 auctions so far...
But I did just win this walking stick!
Now I just have to decide whether to keep it for myself or give it away as one of the birthday presents I mentioned. Decisions, decisions... I think it will depend on whether I win some of the other stuff I'm bidding on.
