Hot DAMN! John Fluevog had a one-time-ever-only crazy sale today! I don't know if they're doing it in all their locations of just NYC, but it's not online. It's never happened before, and is unlikely to happen again any time soon. I arrived at the store at noon and it was already insanity. Unfortunately I am a size 7, which is pretty common, so my options were somewhat limited (they were all out of pumps/party shoes by the time I got there, and they projected a complete sell-out of shoes sizes 7, 7.5, and 8 by 5pm). Still, I made out swimmingly! I bought a pair of funky black and brown Mary Jane's that were originally $159.99 and a pair of brown ankle boots that were originally $199.99 for $29.99 each! That's $300 off! The shits!

I went to the yarn store last night to buy a skein of organic cotton to play around with. That costs about $8.

They had qiviut--which is the undercoat of the Arctic muskox. It's a rare fiber, and they had it in a lace weight, so I just had to try it out.

$85 for a skein. That was one expensive impulse buy.

^ Hope you're planning something special for it!

Recession FTW!

And I'm going out for French tonight...

I went to the yarn store last night

I'd like to learn how to knit but I'm worried that it's too hard for a righty to teach a lefty. :)

If you can find someone who can teach you "continental style," it won't make a difference. It's a natural style for lefties--and actually faster in some ways than how most Americans knit.

I can't teach anyone to knit. I'm self taught. My mom tried to teach me, but it wasn't sinking in, so she bought me a book called "Kids Knit!" I couldn't read yet (I was 5), but I followed the pictures.

As a result, I've got some really weird methods... The end result is the same--and I produce gorgeous fabric--but I'm not as fast as other methods would make me.

Thing is, after doing it for 47 years, it's in muscle memory. There is no changing what I do at this late date.

BTW, check your local yarn shop (not Michaels, a real yarn shop). All give classes, and have people there to teach and coach. And they'd be able to teach you continental.

My mom would probably love to have some of that!

Today, I went back to Michaels and bought more beads- mostly semi-precious stones.

Wow! I don't think I've ever been happier for someone buying shoes, ever! Congrats!
