I just bought an iaito very similar to this one.

Here's a pic:

Could chop quite a few onions up with that, I'm guessing. :D

Bought me this jacket from merc.
Best buy of the year, I think I'll wear the life out of it before the end of 2008.

Yeah, Harrington-style jackets are pretty versatile. Easy to dress up or down with. I have brown suede one from loro piana which gets a fair bit of use.

Sins of a Solar Empire yesterday. Oh. My. God. It's a fun game and it fits the bill of what I was looking for: large armies and something that I can't lose in the first 15-30 minutes. I can't help but laugh at the fact that I have the same problem here as I do in other shorter games: I have 7 hours and I still can't expand quickly enough to keep up!

I just bought a fairly decent decanter off eBay. Nothing special or vintage or even crystal, just regular cut glass in a nice design. But I want it for the functionality rather than anything else:

Now I just have to decide what to open to christen it with when it arrives... :)

I just impulse-bought some Creed Silver Mountain Water cologne. Having a "buyer's twinge" right now, but it will vanish once the stuff arrives, I'm sure!

I'm not familiar with that one but it sounds nice. I'm about halfway through the Chanel #19 parfum I almost missed my flight back from the Virgin Islands in order to buy. Unfortunately, once that's gone it's gone since all they sell here is the Eau de Toilette. :(

Weird that they don't sell the Eau de Parfum in the USA (I just tried a couple of reputable US fragrance online shops and couldn't find it there either). If you run out (and have paypal) I'd be happy to buy it here on your behalf and mail it over. It's easily available over here eg here

Thanks! I may have to take you up on that someday. :)

I got the Creed Silver Mountain Water in the mail today.

Oh. My. God.

It's magical. Truly, utterly, magical. This was a complete blind buy, based on a recommendation but I hadn't sniffed it before. Very risky thing to do. But I'm so delighted to have taken such a wild chance, because it's easily my new favourite. As soon as I put it on, I started chuckling with delight. Literally, I was chuckling to myself for about ten seconds, from the sheer fun of it.

For those who know their wines as well as their scents, I'd the smell of Creed SMW is like a cross between a Valpolicella and a Pomerol, with the light floral violet nose of the former then backed up by hefty blackcurrants, tea and a hidden, very pure, tobacco and almost woody note.

That sounds good enough to eat. :D

My latest purchase: A vet visit and anti-biotic for my nutty puppy who likes to eat everything in the yard to the point he gets colitis. Nutty furball.

- Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut
- Green Grass, Running Water by Thomas King
- Tickets to The Dark Knight, one to a midnight show and one at an IMAX screening,

- Green Grass, Running Water by Thomas King

Great book choice! :techman:

Thank you, glad someone knew what this book was! It was recommended to me by a friend (one of her favorites) and I'm liking it so far. Alberta is an interesting woman and reminds me a bit of said friend.

As for new purchases:

- An Xbox 360. :) I've wanted one for quite some time and got an amazing deal on one: $100. Being sold by a co-worker of my girlfriend's mother. Apparently the co-worker has a (now) ex-fiance who did a bunch of fooling around and so now she's selling his electronics to make up for the rent he didn't pay. I couldn't pass it up for $100. I also picked up The Orange Box for it, a wireless controller and an Xbox Live membership. It's worth it for the media streaming features alone and now with the announcement of playing Netflix Instant View movies on it, it just covered the cost of the Roku player I was considering.

Omigod!! I've just noticed there are subtitles in l33t!!!
That is the most glorious thing I've heard in a long time! I love The IT Crowd! I don't think I've laughed harder at a tv show than in the second episode as the wheelchair lift slowly, slowly rose, and all the kindly theater employees waved goodbye.

Today I bought a great pair of jeans and a shirt from Anthropologie. The jeans were on sale, down from $129.99 to 69.99! Not bad, eh? They're super cute: navy, high-waisted (but not so high as to practically negate the need for a shirt, 30's style buttons up the sides, and a little buckle in the back -- just a lot of great details. The best part is that they fit perfectly! Tight on the waist and they still fit my hips, a rarity. None of the wait-band gap I usually get with jeans. And they do that really sexy thing where they really outline the butt, and go up the crack, just a tiny, tiny bit (not like, "Girl, is your ass hungry cos it's eating your pants?" up the crack, just a little)-- it's super flattering.
Expensive jeans really do look better.

I hope someone hasn't actually said that to you before.

Oh god, not to me! It's just a term. It's best for camel-toe: "Girl, is yo pussy hungry 'cos it's eatin' yo pants!" I have far too much taste/clash to wear anything that rides up, especially in that particular area.

Hm, the movie Teeth comes to mind with that variation!
