What would be your ideal date?

My husband and I are in a dating rut and, honestly, I put that on me. I tend to be the pickier one with what we do for dates, so I wanted to plan a date around his likes, but I want it to be a little outside the box.

My husband loves to fish, see concerts, drink fancy beers, hike, and he will eat any type of food you put in front of him. I need some fresh ideas. Oh, and he is a sandals and t shirt kind of guy, so nothing too fancy.

Hmmm.

What I used to do, way back when, if sitting round the fire at the local of a Friday night didn’t cut it no more. I’d tell the lass to put on something nice enough for everywhere, but I wouldn’t say where, and I’d take her on a mystery tour to one of those tiny bistros she’d never noticed before. The ones lit by actual candles, and some wirey old guy with white hair and leathery skin would play something softly in the corner on a viola or didgeridoo or something. We’d eat something we’d never tried before, consume lots of booze, then back home in a cab, where we’d make sweet sweet waffles.

Other times, I’d cook something awesome. My ideal date though, ain’t never gonna happen, not in a million years, so I stopped dropping hints long long ago.

Go out to eat somewhere I haven't been with lots and lots of raw fish. Expensive alcohol.

One where the potential life partner and me start to click. Or where the potential partner doesn't start begging to get into bed with me despite otherwise saying the awesome turn-on of how I'm not dateable to them, which happened as often as the folks who would stand me up.

That, and the best dates are timeless to begin with.

Riker'sMailbox your fella sounds outdoorsy if I may say. Take him to the opera! (Kidding) How about a river cruise dinner? Something just for the evening. We have a paddle steamer that does them in Brisbane so you come here and do that (kidding again about coming here). However if you could work something around the water perhaps??

That would be so much fun. That being said some people go to conventions (I know of many) inside their Daleks. I informed my better half that he needed to make sure his Dalek was remote controlled.

Standards, one has to have them.

Sounds like the folk festival we have here every July 1 would do the trick. Bower Ponds includes fishing, paddleboats, there's a river nearby for fishing and canoeing, I'm not sure if they always have a beer tent but they have some years, there are miles of hiking trails in Waskasoo Park (the Ponds area is just a small part of that), and there's always a wide variety of ethnic foods.

As for the concert, there's music and dancing throughout the day with a special performance in the evening, and fireworks at the end. And he can wear what he wants, as long as it's something that doesn't matter if he gets grass stains on it (the only seating is the ground on the hillside overlooking the stage, and most people put down a blanket or jacket to sit on).

Other concerts are held there throughout the year, and there's a theatre group that puts on Shakespeare plays.

So... there's a suggestion. It's probably too far to travel here to do that, though (), so maybe there might be some similar kind of event in or near your area.

One year at one of the Calgary conventions I went to, someone had a remote-controlled K-9 that was very close to full-size. It went zipping around the mezzanine, and the Whovians were having a lot of fun enjoying the reactions of people who had no idea who K-9 is.

True. He's a perfect little project though (says me speaking on behalf of someone else, lol). K-9 doesn't take up as much room in the garage as a Dalek and there are safety issues with a Dalek too. They are rather heavy.

I have a K-9, but fortunately mine's small enough to keep on a display shelf.

A few years ago I found an old sketch pad and found a Dalek my dad drew. He did a really good job!

I'm thinking back to a conversation we had once, in a bank. We'd both gone in there at the same time, not knowing the other would be there. So I just wanted to remind him that Doctor Who was on later.

I enjoy going to the state fair this time of year. County fairs are fun too. My perfect date would involve history somehow, either a history museum, historical landmark, etc. There's old mansions that do tours in this area, I love that stuff.

I'm just happy when I can get my husband to go out to a restaurant. He's a major germophobe and doesn't trust that his food is prepared safely unless he's seen it or done it himself.

That reminds me so much of my sister. She won't eat out at all! She was a vegetarian for about 20 years and the excuse then was that she didn't trust them not to put animal ingredients in any non-meat dish. She's started eating meat again last year but she still wouldn't eat out. She's the type of person who comes home every night and mops the tile floors with bleach.

Most places are more than happy to accommodate people with a variety of different diet types, but she would explain to the waiter, then she would request the manager, then the chef. She would always sue the same explanation "I don't eat anything with a face or a mother". Every single time, she would need to speak with the waiter, manager and the chef to make sure they understood. It was mortifying.

Yeah my sister is preachy to family. If she went out to eat with us, she just sat there and didn't eat. I told her a long time ago that I will eat what I want and while I know something may be bad for me, I don't want to hear about it! She's gotten a lot better about not beating that dead horse, but occasionally I have to remind her. I eat pretty healthy I think. I try to eat organic foods when I can get them and non-gmo. She just has really high standards. She is on the paleo diet right now, I think its called.
