Just for fun to discuss what we've liked (or not) in terms of a specific production as opposed to an ongoing web series.
None of these efforts are perfect and we don't really expect them to be. And by perfect I mean in terms of being on exactly the same footing as the official studio based productions. So this is really a case of something we've liked best nonetheless.
I've seen all of Star Trek Continues as well as most of Phase II/New Voyages. I've seen Starship Exeter and episodes of Starship Farragut. I find myself intrigued with Prelude To Axanar and I'm curious to see the final film. I'm also looking forward to seeing Starship Farragut's forthcoming episode, "The Crossing."
Out of all of what I've seen the one that takes the prize for me is Star Trek Continues' second episode, "Lolani." Nothing else I've seen has come as close to recapturing the essence and feel of TOS. They made this work on so many levels. No, it's not perfect, but the differences between this and the original series that inspired it is really a matter of casting. My criticisms on this one are trivial and in all fairness I could level harsher criticisms at some of TOS' actual episodes.
Todd Haberkorn as Spock is almost there in this one even though I think he really arrived in STC's Ep. 3. Vic Mignogna's Shatner works. Lou Ferrigno as Zaminhon is excellent. If I had a real druther it would be to have seen Chuck Huber as McCoy at this point rather than Larry Nemecek, and with all due respect to Larry. But that still doesn't take away from the final result of the episode as a whole.
The story--while it could have been massaged a bit further--is the kind of approach TOS would likely have taken. This is Star Trek aspiring higher than the pew-pew of Star Wars and more run-of-the-mill fan efforts.
Anyone else?
