1) Show premise?
DS9 > VOY > ENT > TOS > TNG
A space station on the edge of the Quadrant, way outside the Federation space, belonging to a planet that has just been freed from a cruel oppressive occupation that lasted several decades, near a wormhole inhabited by mysterious aliens who exist in non-linear time and are worshiped as gods on the above mentioned planet; with a crew where Starfleet people were not in the majority, with a commander who is a single father emotionally damaged by the death of his wife in the Borg attack, an XO who is an angry former terrorist/resistance fighter scarred by the Occupation, and a shapeshifter security officer of unknown origin who served in the same capacity during the Occupation. Easily wins the best premise, and it was used to its full potential. VOY premise - a ship lost in the Delta Quadrant and trying to get back home, with a crew made of both Starfleet and the Maquis, comes second (though its execution was not nearly as good). ENT had the interesting premise of being a prequel and set at the time before the founding of the Federation, when Humans were just starting to explore the galaxy (how well it used it is questionable - I'd say it was hit and miss). Then I'd put the premise of Star Trek TOS, which is sort of the premise of the entire franchise - bright future, United Earth, Federation of Planets, mankind exploring different planets and races etc. but the fact that it was so episodic holds it back. And then we have TNG... basically it's the same thing as TOS, only 100 years later with different characters, and the premise that the Human race had progressed to the point where their society is almost perfect and people are free of greed, jealousy, pettiness and... And let's just say, it's a miracle that TNG turned out as good as it did.
2) Featured ship?
Enterprise NCC-1701 refit/Enterprise-A > NX-01 Enterprise > > Enterprise-D > TOS Enterprise NCC-1701 > Voyager > Defiant
Going purely by aesthetic standards.
3) Captain?
Sisko > Picard >> Movies Kirk > Archer > Janeway > TOS Kirk
4) First Officer?
Spock/Kira > T'Pol >> Riker >>>>>>>>>> Chakotay
5) Chief Engineer?
O'Brien > Tucker > Torres > Scotty > LaForge
Shocking, I know, but while Scotty is OK, I find him a bit overrated.
6) Chief Medical Officer?
Phlox > EMH > McCoy > Bashir >>>> Crusher
Crusher was bland compared to the others. I wasn't fond of Bashir at first, but he developed very well in the later seasons. McCoy is a great character, but there quite a few were times when he was written as just too hostile to Spock, which was annoying. EMH is the best character on VOY, and certainly the one who got the most attention and development, but comparing him to Phlox, I've realized just how more believable Phlox is as someone who is actually a doctor on a Starfleet ship, while EMH is more like a great sitcom character, completely OTT.
7) Security Officer?
Odo >> Reed/Tuvok > Worf >>> Yar
The second place was not easy to decide on, since Worf got so much attention, storylines and development, a lot more than Tuvok or Reed, but in the end I just went with my personal preferences, and I just prefer them to Worf.
There was never any doubt who is #1 in this category in terms of acting, writing, development, role on the show, and my personal preference.
8) Resident "hottie?"
I don't even know how to begin answering this.
What does it mean, resident "hottie"? Is it someone I find hot, or someone that is supposedly considered the 'resident hottie' by the media or fandom in general or whatever? Does it have to be a member of the main cast, or can it be a major recurring character? Am I supposed to rank women, or can I rank men, since that's the gender I am more attracted to? Does it have to be just one character from each show who is judged to be the hottest on that show, or can we include as many characters we like? What if there are two or more people we on one show that I find hotter than anyone on another show? Depending on answers to those questions, I could make several different rankings.
If I were to pick just one person in each show that I find most attractive in the main cast (except in cases when I can't decide):
Spock > Kira > Tuvok > Trip/Archer > Data/Riker (before he got fat)
- Because I find Kira more attractive than any of the males in DS9 main cast. (Nothing wrong with Bashir or Sisko, I just was never really attracted to either of them.)
If I am allowed to include the recurring characters, then Dukat would share the first place with Spock and Damar and Bareil would not be far behind, and the VOY/ENT/TNG guys would be ranked the same. And that would be my ranking of males.
If I am supposed to rank the females, it would be something like this:
Kira > Uhura > season 3 T'Pol/Hoshi > Seven > Troi
but if we are including the recurring characters, then it would be:
Kira > Uhura > Ro/K'Ehleyr > season 3 T'Pol/Hoshi > Seven
9) "Main" villain?
Dominion > TNG Borg >>>> TOS Klingons > Xindi >>> VOY Borg
The Dominion was by far the most complex and developed out of the Trek villains. The Borg were a great concept and had great impact at first, but only when they were very simple; they are the kind of villain who can't be used too much or made more complex without being defanged. I liked the Xindi storyline, but the Xindi themselves were hardly the best part of it. Degra was great, but Dolim and the Xindi-Reptilians were far too one-dimensional, there was diversity between the Xindi species but not within them, and I disliked that it was the species that were more similar to humans that were the "good" ones, with the "ugly", non-human ones being "evil".
10) Show ending episode?
TNG > DS9 >>>> VOY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ENT.
(The last episode of TOS doesn't count as a finale)
11) Show opening sequence?
ENT In A Mirror Darkly > TOS/TNG > DS9/VOY > ENT regular opening
Sorry, but the song really sucked. It sounds like an 80s 'sweet metal' ballad.
12) Show overall?
DS9 > TNG/TOS/ENT > VOY
or:
DS9 > TNG middle/later seasons> ENT season 3 & 4 > TOS > VOY/ ENT season 1 & 2 > TNG season 1 & 2
DS9 > VOY > ENT > TOS > TNG
