Your dream Star Trek game

LMAO!!! Pretty hard to commit hard earn money to listen to orders from a kid who's master all operations from the ship, but have to suspend a mission because she/he has to go to school tomorrow.

If money were no object:

A Mass Effect style game that incorporates the ability to explore systems and planets both inside and outside the Federation. Some planets can only be scanned from orbit, some can be landed on and explored to a certain extent. Fire fight missions are possible but so are pure scientific missions. I love the idea of being able to initiate a first contact and having the consequences reflected in future game play.

Ship to ship combat would use the Bridge Commander model, a combination of computer and manual control. Landing parties (or away teams) can be chosen based upon skill sets. If the player can choose the ship that they command then a limited number of decks and sections should be open for exploration. If there is only one ship that can be commanded then most if not all of the ship should be available.

Finally if a main action-adventure story line is necessary then I wouldn't mind something about the Kelvan invasion of the Milky Way. After all we never see the results of the robot ship being sent to the Andromeda in By Any Other Name (TOS).

Mass Effect like game would be cool and a nice little multiplayer shooter game would be fun too (Maybe set in the Dominion War).

I'd love to see Secret of Vulcan Fury. If for no other reason than it was the final time all the original cast contributed to a Star Trek work.

I don't think there is any one perfect game. A dream game of mine would be to have a Judgement Rites style game, done in modern graphics with a storyline that spans TNG, DS9, and VOY. I'd love to have a game that incorporates voice acting from the main cast of all those series. Too expensive to ever happen, but hey, that's what dreams are for!

I have quite a collection of old Star Trek games and I am a little surprised nobody has mentioned what has sprung to my mind.

I would love to see something like Star Trek: Armada. But bigger. Way bigger. Have any of you played Gal Civ II? Or Birth of the Federation? Well if Armada II, Gal Civ and BotF all had a bizarre love-child...it'd be my dream ST game.

A huge, turn-based, Star Trek universe. As big or small as you want it [one quadrant or all four]. Empire building, colonisation, creating fleets, ship building...

It'd be awesome.

I'm wondering how plausible it could be to have a Star Trek game which players take positions on one ship, and perform duties on that ship or space station. This means other players, dumb or adolescent thinking they may be, could end you character's life because of their bad decisions while on the bridge?

This game exists in spirit! Artemis is pretty fun with a big group of folks. Here's an example that was done at a con, with Wil Wheaton as the celebrity captain.

I'm sure there's a mod out there somewhere that makes it full on Star Trek...

As a teenager I really wanted some kind of open-world/history type TNG game. I think I just wanted to fly around the galaxy as the Enterprise and go visit Iconia and use the gateways or fly to the Devolin system and pick-up the phasing cloak.
I want to see a simple top down game like the original Grand Theft Auto where you play as a starship and have to solve puzzles to advance to the next level. So there might some asteroids coming your way and have to shoot with photons or phasers, or use a tractor beam to tow a ship and smash it against something. I haven't put too much thought into this.

Grand Theft Auto : Risa

'There's something very wrong on the Federations galaxy-famous 'pleasure planet'. Corruption, people smuggling and narcotics have become the very rotten core of what was once a sanctuary of peace and permissiveness. Set against a backdrop of sunny skies and elegant cities your mission is to infiltrate and bring down the despicable organisations and individuals responsible'

Free-form sandbox style play obv. The soundtrack could be tricky as long orchestral pieces could begin to grate after a while, perhaps your character could locate a set of programs which include some 1980s Earth music....?

Computer game: STO only done well and not an MMO.

Tabletop: something Powered by the Apocalypse that can handle any era, style, or faction with ease.

I'd like a game in which I'd be the Captain of a ship, and we zoom around the quadrant doing missions. Mission orders would come in, and off we'd go to do them. However, along the way, all kinds of crazy stuff can happen.
It would also be nice if we could just be exploring around, and hit an event trigger point on the map which causes something to happen.

We'd pick up quests from people we'd meet on other ships or on planets. We'd battle space monsters. We'd battle hostile aliens. We'd run for our lives from weird phenomena. We'd conduct surveys and do science experiments. We'd get experimented ON by aliens. We'd solve problems for ourselves and for other people. We'd develop new technologies and make new discoveries.

Some stuff we'd do on the ship, and some stuff would occur on planets and space stations. We would explore and expand the map.
In short...we'd boldly go.

My ideal game.
FASA and SFB join forces, and make multi-layered games. Each mini uses the best of 3D printing and new tech.
And each mini has a base that opens up the ship for a computer game--rather like Disney's

I have a handful of projects I would like to make.

First of all, a sequel to Star Trek 25th Anniversary/Judgment Rites, a traditional story driven point and click adventure game married to a starship simulator.
But rather than using the wing commander like one from the two first games I would like to replace it with one similar to Bridge Commander. I would also like to throw in some optional segments in which you can fly the Enterprise without it involving combat missions, and of course a simulator mode so you can test your mettle against simulated enemies, being able to fly different simulated ships yourself including enemy ones.

As several of the actors of the original show have passed on by now one would think that voice actors would have to be hired with voices similar to DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, and Leonard Nimoy, but I think I would rather go with a non talky version instead as I don't think anyone can fill in for these actors.

Alternatively people might suggest using the new alternate universe characters but I really do not care for the new movies and its universe which to me feels to much like wanting to play with the old toys and yet change them to resemble someone else's ideas what they should be like.

Second would be a Star Trek Elite Force 3 with this time the backdrop being the setting of Deep Space Nine.
Hazard Team members would return such as Munro, Murphy, Chang, Chell, Jurot, and Deep Space Nine characters such as Kira (now promoted to Starfleet Captain running DSN after Bajor joined the Federation) and who serves as the player's superior officer, Bashir and Nog who is now the head of engineering on the Defiant

A series of incidents have been plaguing the Federation and Cardassian border including the sector in which Bajor is located, and the attackers are a hostile new species the Federation has never encountered before, in the meantime the Cardassians are also up to something as a military faction seeks to topple the civilian government and restore the Cardassian Union, and for some reason the Borg have been attracted to this all.

Operating from DSN and using the Defiant as their means of transport the player must undertake a number of missions, from investigating the attacks, coming to the aids of friendly vessels and colonies, infiltrating enemy military installations and ships including a Borg sphere, and resolving a mystery that could change the balance of power in the Alpha Quadrant.

Most of the formula of Elite Force would remain the same but the levels would be bigger with more alternative paths, a reduction in the number of unnecessary cutscenes, more use of the tricorder to solve puzzles and open up paths, return of some old foes and introduction of a variety of new foes.

Third, a Star Trek RPG inspired by games like Knights of the Old Republic and what Star Trek Online tried to be.
Set during the era of the original five year mission of the Enterprise under Kirk's command, the player would build their own captain and perhaps bridge crew characters, determining their strengths and weaknesses, and command a ship and performing various missions for Starfleet and the Federation with there being a large storyline that slowly unfold.
Classic species and worlds would return as well as complete new species and worlds, with perhaps some missions being follow ups to classic episodes. (I really want to throw in a mission involving 23th century Borg but I do not know how I would preserve continuity as the Borg's official appearance in in the 24th century (Q Who) and I don't want to resort to time travel or the crew forgot all about it)
Skills would take an important role in dealing with situations and solving puzzles, with each of them opening potential new paths.
Any ground combat would either be turn-based or action-based-with-pauze.

Fourth, a sequel to Bridge Commander (though with Excalibur coming this might not be necessary).
Set after Endgame/Nemesis, the player would be the commanding officer of a various classes of starships undertaking missions of exploration, diplomacy, science, patrol, and combat, visiting known Federation worlds and complete new worlds and locations, and encountering known species and new species.

I really enjoyed Elite Force on the PS2, I must admit.

Something like that, with added starship operations would be great. Or, as some has already eluded to, a No Mans Sky type game with Federation starships. Or why not throw in a Voyager-esque game where you've been thrown to the other side of the galaxy and you need to work your way home.

Not sure how much I'm allowed to promote it here, but this pretty well summarized my current project I'm working on. It's not the Star Trek IP, obviously, but it's my attempt to make the ST game I always wanted to play. You can check out my progress here, if you like.

I plan to check with the mods if it's okay to do so, but I'd like to set up a dev blog on this forum as well, since I think this group of people would be particularly interested.

It might be nice to see a retro vertically scrolling video game.
You start with this craft: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Academy_flight_trainer
It works its way up to this: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Federation_attack_fighter
Then this: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Maquis_raider

Below scrolls some hudge Federation battleship with phaserbanks that sprout up.

The ship hits the bridge--then docks over it. (unless you decide to bomb the ship.

The game becomes a first person shooter.

Win the objective gained--you repair and by the huge bsattleship--and it beocmes more like Klingon Acadamy.

I can think of 3 right off the bat.
1) A LEGO game in the style of the LEGO Star Wars, and LEGO Marvel and DC Games. These are some of my favorite games, and there is enough diversity of characters, planets and aliens that it would be a blast to see a Trek version.
2) A Telltale game. I really think Telltale's story driven style of games would work really well in the Trek universe, even more than the traditional action games we tend to see.
3) A Bioware RPG in the style of the Mass Effect. I love the Mass Effect games, and I really think they have a feel and style that would easy to use for a Trek.

My favorite Trek game series was the early Starfleet Command (1-2-OP) games, where you had complete control of the ship and everything made sense. I'd love a ship simulator, something like the detail of the SFC games spliced with the fluidity and ease of Wargaming's "World of..." series.

And perhaps for tabletop, but could also be a computer series, I'd like to be a sector commander in the TOS Era. You'd manage crew assignments on your Starbases, outposts in your sector, and any ships under your command. Send your ships on special assignments or routine patrols, reacting to uncertain events like outbreaks, riots, or hostile invasion forces while trying to get the most production (Scientific or economic) out of your sector. I had started making my own prototype of a TT version, but I'm still a little too hazy on how to perform some details.

Artemis is definitely a good Trek inspired game. It has significant limitations and is not always user friendly, but it is a lot of fun. I've played it multiple times and it's interesting to see people find which job they're best at. Helm, Tactical, Engineering, Science, Communications or Captain. I would say that being the helm is the most fun for me, but also it's fun to be in the big chair, which typically is an office chair.
